I just finished reading a book of stories by female prisoners...and I think ALL of them had been raped or molested by either their dads or male relatives... it's so prevalent its scary.. The movie was alright, but I had read the book first and thought the book was SO much better. There was so much more depth and a character you get to know and relate to. The book also gives a lot more detail on what goes on in the teahouses. The movie rushed over a lot of events that were explained ...

yeah but I really doubt people would do it for only this reason. people who do this were probably already going through a lot of pain and this was the thing that pushed them over the edge.

Some people have a lot of pain because of what is going on in their head rather than what is happening to them. This often has a strong biological/chemical component. It seems a lot of times people just don't understand this because it's not something you can see like a physical handicap, but people...
