This is the kind of shit that happens when you emphasize sports and winning over everything else. These people need to re-examine their priorities. This young man, who had planned to defend their freedoms by serving his country, will probably be disabled for the rest of his life. And all these redneck bastards can think about is whether or not they'll be able to fire their cannon at the next football game. I only have one word for these people.... pathetic!

Well, I'm torn between 3 things here...

I hate football, and I want all football traditions to die, along with the sport itself.

I have a serious problem with the current trend of making everything "safe" - NYC banned trans-fat in restaurants, because it's "bad for you". If people want to play with canons, let them play with canons, as long as they're not pointing them at anybody.

The fools in this case, from what I've seen from other sources, were using a canon with stress fractures. It had been x-rayed. They were truly negligent and stupid, and have no business ever touching a canon again.

Now, if this kid new about the stress fractures ahead of time, and played with the canon anyway, he got what he deserved. If he didn't know, then this is not his fault, and somebody else deserves to be hit with a nice big lawsuit.
