If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

temple - looking for volunteer djs and thank yous

Post by tat2jay »

starting this weekend, temple will be hosting a second set of volunteer djs in the second dance room at the French Quarter - that is a non paid slot in the second dance room - so we will now be offereing 6 djs per night with two rooms to choose from!
just send your name, dj name, dates available, and styles you want to spin, you must be available from 830pm to 3am on the night you want to dj, most likely we will be drawing straws to choose the order
thanks! and thank you for a great night last night at our new venue, we were very pleased and think its going to turn out to be a wonderful home for us!
thank you to the patrons and to the staff of the french quarter!!

if you ever need a hand, call me.
but it seems more fair to let the djs do a set in each room.

for now this is primarly for people who are very new at it to get a chance to spin with out as much pressure - kind of a training area if you will

i think that's a damn good idea. i mean, i bet there are plenty of people out there that might be good at dj'ing, who wouldn't try it in front of everybody unless they were dead drunk, in which they'd suck nards at dj'ing, which would make it all pointless.

giving them a buffer to try it out is a good thing.

not to mention, it'll give you and the rest of the regulars a chance to inform those who are tone deaf (like me!) that they shouldn't quit their day job at arby's just yet... :D

some people kick ass spinning while toasted. i THINK i used to. I know sober i usually suck, but back in the day, everyone used to say how good i mixed, and i was ALWAYS toasted back then....so perhaps it helps some people out.

Everybody's a dj.

No really, I think its funny that if you spin a couple times you can suddenly put dj in front of your myspace name. It makes me giggle.

Whats even funnier is all the people who used it to launch a semi-pro DJ career so they could DJ in other towns, other events, other venues.
Oh wait.
Thats not funny. Thats using a tool for what its for.

:) I'm kidding.

Seriously though, I am glad that there are so many people interested in sharing music with the masses (that's what it's really all about).

well when describing what they are doing on that particular night, its rather appropriate -
from wikipedia:
A disc jockey or DJ is a person who selects and plays prerecorded music for an audience, either on radio, online content in the form of podcasts or web-based radio shows, or to clubbers.

i am not saying that an amatuer dj (like myself) is the same as a pro dj (like arkady or slink) but it is just a description of the job they are doing that particular night.

and i have to agree with jason, im just happy there are so many people that want to share the music they enjoy with the masses

and to people who oppose that way of thinking, well A) i dont really care what any human thinks and B) the people who complain the most i see the least so it makes tuning shit into white noise easy.

I'm not quite sure how just observing how people put DJ in front of their name after spinning a couple of times makes me laugh

= (equals)

not thinking its a good thing that people are allowed to dj at temple. I know I was intimidated by the whole audio world until I got the opportunity to dj. I had a blast...its great that people can do it..

But the fact that people want others to believe that they are as good or experienced as slink or arkady or michael...I find that amusing.

I'm not sure I'd consider anyone here a professional dj or a semi-pro dj. When I think of professional djs....I think of like Paul Oakenfold or Sasha and Digweed. People that make 100 percent of their living of spinning records and making music.

I'm not "hating on your parade", though I know some of you always like to play that card.

I think we should leave the record players back in the 19th century where they belong.

OR, you could stick to servers and leave the audio to the experts.
