If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Of course a highly literate person can eventually interpret what you meant to say, but for someone with a learning disorder or low literacy, it's simply too difficult without a standard, consistant format.

I'm not that much of a snob.

And yet again, i'm on the opposite end of the spectrum on that. i feel that expecting everyone to be unable to understand what i am saying, and having to change my style and talk down to them would be insulting to their intelligence. i would like to think that others are my equals and capable of understanding various writing styles. Automatically assuming otherwise and treating everyone like they are stupid would be the snob out-look.

I have to agree with the Nazis. It's often too inconvenient for me to read anything which doesn't at least utilize proper capitalization and punctuation; I tend to scan things pretty quickly, but when I encounter a jumbled mess I have to slow down so much that it isn't often worth the time. Now, don't get me wrong, my own grammar is far from perfect. I'm fully aware that sometimes I don't put a comma where it should be, I end sentences with prepositions and even use split infinitives. Woe is me. But my shit still reads, I'm pretty sure.

Bottom line, I try not to get too snooty about grammar, but following the basic rules of English definitely goes a long way toward me taking a post seriously, or even bothering with it at all.

Most people have some sort of spellcheck program, right? Is it too much to ask that someone makes sure their work is legible before posting it specifically to be viewed by others?

By this, however, I by no means am taking shots at Codeine Coma or Mother Mo, who I have sincere respect for. Just offering my two cents.

To all my friends, family, spelling and grammar nazi's,illiterates, dyslexics, fascists, people who were offended, people who were pleased, and to all those who never really cared. First,I would like to say that we are all human. We make mistakes. Second,I would like to say, that there is three routes we as humans can take when one makes a mistake. We can hold a grudge forever and condemn them to our own private mental prison. We can forgive them and show them the correct way. Or we can forget it.

I never really hoped to cause this much trouble over a simple thread. I was merely writing what,I thought, some would find interesting. And some really did find it refreshing and interesting. But,others seemed more concerned about taking personal jabs at their enemies. Yet,still, others, decided the post was about sentence structuring. (Which I admit I am a horrid writer/typist and will probably serve time in typing class at some point and time in my existence or the afterlife. Typing in hell 101 anyone???)

Which ever path people take/took over this thread, understand this,I was only (attempting ) writing a thread for answers and a hello. My purpose was not to start a literacy war amongst the ranks. At no point and time did I really mean harm or offence to any of the things I have said. You all seem like really interesting people. And I would like to know you all better. But,I do not wish to know more enemies.

As far as my sentence structuring goes...For now, this is as good as it gets. And if anyone would like to be my personal editor, one is needed here badly. (Although,I cannot pay you,for I am poor folk)

I can only hope that none are offended by this reply. I mean no harm....yet.

Yes, I have wished you were dead. You are just another face in the crowd, someone who brings me suffering, someone I truely hate.

I was absolutely amazed at this thread. It started with a viable question to the board. "How does one know one is alive?" Now, it has morphed into something I can't even bear to read. I am sure the thread has not gone as originally intended.

I apologise to Codiene Come that his post was not taken for what it was, and has not generated the thoughts I believe it should have.

I am very proud of him for this giant leap back into the social scene, and again apologise that some people were not as embracing as they are to those merely stating "I'm new here."

I would respond to his original question, but I just don't feel comfortable bearing the thoughts and emotions it would require, especially to a thread that might break it down into meaningless grammatical errors and typos. Fix it in your head if you are that annoyed with it. I believe it is rude to correct someone's writings. Unless you are in English class, keep your red pen to yourself. In a public forum, such as this, it is just plain belittling.

Good luck Coma....please keep posting, there are those of us that don't nit-pick and just read what is posed, and respond accordingly; to the subject matter at hand.

ps....I myself am too lazy to scan for typos and refuse to use the spellcheck in hopes there are some to give everyone something to look for as they read...have fun
