I leaned against the alley wall, hands cupped over a match, trying to light my slightly damp cigarette as the rain poured down. It was a miserable night to be out, and I was out in it. I adjusted the collar on my trenchcoat and looked up into the night sky. The rainclouds suffused with that orange glow of the city.

Even here, in the Emerald City, nature took a back seat to the trappings of man. I looked down again as the match hissed and flared, bringing the bitter smell of sulfur as I lit and puffed on my cigarette. The smoke seared my throat and warmed my lungs as I drew it in and looked around at the depressing sight before me.

Oh, what a bitter work of art man had created. First, electricity, to pierce the void of night, to take away that element of fear that lay in the darkness. How I hated it, seeing the bright lights at night, removing the dark I felt solace with, where I could sit in the blackness and not feel, not see, not hear the constant misery and pain that I lived with from day to day.

From that cursed day forth, came the Noise, That of horseless carriages, electric radios, telephones. A cacophony of discordance, polluting my world of silence, driving me to madness. I had nothing left, nothing to lose, nothing to gain, soon it would be my time.

I dropped the cigarette and crushed it beneath a boot heel, as hope had been crushed for me, as that spark of life, that ember which burned inside of me, had been smothered. I took a deep breath and looked up.

It was from the darkness she came. My dark angel of death, sheathed in black and crimson, an ivory goddess ascending from the blackest pits of hell to take me. Take me to that cold lonely place where there is no Noise, no light, no pain...

Oh, she was cold, a palpable aura of unemotional indifference. Her alabaster skin like that of cool marble, her ice-blue eyes that froze me with a single look, a look that chilled me to my very soul. It was a look that I had seen many a time, staring back at me, a pale reflection of myself, yet in female form. Who was this bleak maiden, all in black, arriving early for my funeral.

I know not how long we stood there, the light drizzle coming down gently to shower us, to futilely attempt to wash away the sins of our kindred souls. An understanding look flashed in her eyes and they softened momentarily, releasing me from her icy gaze. I blinked then sighed, opening my mouth to speak.

Cold fingers pressed against my lips, cold as the grave for which I so longed. I shivered deep to the core within, the life's breath stealing from my body as she motioned me to silence. I tried to step away, flee from this encounter, but to no avail. My body pressed back against the brick wall behind me, my heart raced as panic begin to set in. I was the bird caught by the snake, hypnotized, frozen in space and time by a fear so primal that not even fleeing would cull it.

Suddenly those lush carmine lips turned upwards, the icy exterior had melted, leaving behind a rare jewel of dark beauty. Her nearness aroused me, dallying with my emotions, heating my blood. Her ebon dress clung damply to her curvaceous form, outlining a truly angelic body of demonic lust. I gazed into her eyes and was lost in her as her fangs pierced my flesh and fed on my soul...

That was... *touching*. Really, those are some beautiful words. I was trying to pick out a favorite part to quote, but the whole damn thing was amazing.
It seemed to tell a story yet remained mysterious at the same time. I damn almost cried! [[not sure if that's what you were looking for, but just to let you know...]]
But anyways, that was pleasant to read. Thank you for sharing it with me. [[and here I was thinking it was going to be something raunchy filled with SEX]]

It wasn't??

Yeah, this is my dark noir piece, a writing style I thoroughly enjoy and will have to write more into, this was actually an intro piece into a larger story that dropped by the wayside, I might have to pick it up again...

I'm imprested,

As a writer, I must say that that was very interesting. It was chaos stitched together with a very thick substance. I applaude you. I would enjoy reading more of your writings. Maybe I will post some excerts & short stories, I would love to hear what you have to say about them.*applaudes*
