To all the jilted & misled...

Post by spookwhore »

I just wanted to start a thread dedicated to the advancement of new & underground music. I don't know how many of you will have heard of some of these bands, but I am just getting tired of this public radio marketing tool. I do support things like Uranium, Underground Press, & Velvet Umbra Magazine, as well as 94.3's Southeast Exports (they do have a few good bands on there, like Suburban Urchins). I hope that all of you that read this will add bands of your own...underground, local, foreign, whatever. Please no mainstream, it defeats the purpose. Here's a few from me...

I have listened to most of these bands...with the exception of BileStyle. I have heard of Bile...but,I am just not sure if this is the same band. I am having problems checking these web sites...some were down...one was a false link.(http://www.spookykid.net/).

While I do listen to a hell of alot of Mainstream...I do however listen to a hell of alot of Underground. To me music is music. If you like it listen to it...if not...don't. Someone once posted on KnoxGoth about a similiar subject "Music is the soundtrack of your life". I think this is true.

So listen to whatever makes you happy. :)

Yeah, this probably should be under Music, but I was running late for something & slapped it in here. If someone wants to move it they can. Sorry about the links not working, I'll fix them soon. And just for the record, I'm trying to get anyone to stop listening to mainstream music. I'm just giving a few people the opportunity to experience bands that they would never hear otherwise. I would personally like to hear some new bands, which was part of the reason I started this thread. I like some mainstream music, I'm just getting tired of radio stations & music television playing the same hit list over, & over, & over... That's all. Well, goodnight.

most of my favorite bands i dont know alot of people that have ever heard of them.......esp. today is the day and godflesh... used to be that way with all my music.
on the same token...
i remember when ministry was mainstream (fuck em all ive always loved that band and damn near every album is amazing).. i wish AFI was still underground for that matter... their fans give em a horrid rap... manson was once the spooky kids and people in my hometown that moved from that area told crazy stories of this guy who put cat shit and cookies in bags and threw them to the audience....... korn was an underground metal band (where they shoulda stopped).... the offspring was an underground band only kids that skated listened too because of the ESPN clips of skating to LAPD..... rob zombie was still in white zombie and everyone thought you worshipped the devil if you listened to it.. noone listened to kmfdm in my town because that was music for the draq queens and str8 guys werent suppoed to be into that shit (okok thats just my town but still)
the point here is you can never tell what is going to make it out of the underground. like fugazi never seeing the money these emo fuckers do or korn getting famous but prong being one hit wonders (which is fucking funny because ross robinson met korn thru fear factory's dino because they were the worst grindcore band in town and wanted a new direction... ross wanted to fuse a prong like sound with hiphop beats... made korn do it as they discovered 7 strings... that whole fad was based off the luckiest fluke that was supposed to fail known to man)... prong made the sounds and never EVER saw bank except for snap your fingers.. its fucked. usually just being the most creative or the best band matters shit its all location and marketing. so support the bands you believe are worth it and hope fortune shines on them.
i havent slept in a while so if doesnt make sense so be it but theres a point here somewhere aside from my bitching to how trends shift and the wrong people get famous for their low points in artistic ability.........

Love Prong... damn and shit man!! Also lets not forget how seattle conveniently borrowed their sound from huston's very own King's X, Galactic Cowboys and so on and so forth... granted Ty Tabor has somehow gotten the attention of guitar fanatics finally, but still... these dudes were trying to get loans signed for cars in like 93 and they'd been together for 10 years by that time while the tellerz from seattle were figuring out how to drop 'd'
anywho... blah blah blah

prong = genious.
i met tommy victor briefly last year, as soon as i could say hello he walked off.. a total dick. but hes playing in danzig now..... which is strange in its self because i met him doing a prong reuinon tour with danzig... great show..

king's X is something that gets brought up to me about once a year and i always say the same thing, when beavis and butthead makes fun your video and even they say pearl jam ripped you off... welcome to hell. are they stll releaseing stuff? i always really dug that band....

galatic cowboys... now they got on my nerves, but so did most of the bands taht ropped em off... lol.

and if your talking about seattle ripoffs, how many bands have/are/will continue to rip off the melvins?? the unsung heros of rock.......

You mean someone in Tennessee actually credits The Melvins as the original grunge,,,other than myself? And someone in here heard of The Melvins before Nirvana? And someone still likes The Melvins other than myself????

 I am shocked

The Melvins came into Mercury Theatre one week night in (I think) 95...I was the only person there I believe that knew of them. I'm a bit of a freak so we didn't have much to say to one another...except the whole...I really admire you guys and BS...And hell I might have chased them away from Mercury. Because the only person that stuck around long enough for two beers was the drummer.

So I poped his dick in my mouth and began to suck away like a whore earning cigg money. hahahaha...That last part is a lie. But,long live The Melvins.
:D :D :D

oh yea. around a decade long melvins fan.
and they DID start grunge. if you get the gluey porch treatments rerelease from last year, buzz wrote a huge thing for the inlay which shows them doing the music YEARS before any one else and remembers when jeff from pearl jam was in a speed metal band that used to open for the melvins..
funny stuff.

Ok...here's one for all you southerners...a little Canadian band called 'Mugshot'...they are more punk than anything, even you even wanna go into the category (sp?) of saying they are punk. Anyways, I like their style alot and their songs make me laugh.
They are the nicest guys you'll ever meet...take a look...

The Melvins / Tomahawk show in Nashville was great. I catch Buzzo and Co. every year if possible. They always impress. Most of what I've really been enjoying for a long while now falls into either the experimental, dark soundscapes, or apocolyptic folk genres. I would hazard to say that none of that is or ever will be considered mainstream enough to be heard outside of a college radio station, and even then only on "special" shows.

I support these bands by actually buying their cds versus downloading and going to their gigs when I am able to. There is so much great music out there that can be discovered with a modicum of effort. It's a shame really that so many people are content with what is simply given to them.

Oh, I might have mentioned this in chat ... but if you didn't catch it:

The new Empire State Human single "Liquid Blue" is on sale at the Disc Exchange at Chapman Highway for $6 ... there's only 3 copies tho. They each feature a remix of "Dollar in Blue Collar" by Synthetik FM (that's me, by the way) ... just thought you'd like to know.
