I just had an essay come out in the Spring 2003 edition of the Charles River Review, entitled "Pageantry." It's about my grandmother passing away and us discovering in her effects a big box of clippings and photographs and articles and letters from when she was Mrs America 1946.
I also had an essay accepted for the upcoming (2004) edition of the Harvard Summer Review, called "Ghost Riders on the Rim of Paradise: The Line Between the Devil's Teeth." It's hard to really encapsulate what that one is about--it talks about biker gangs and the golden age of piracy and degenerative diseases and drag kings. I guess you could say it's largely about how ordered culture and outlaw culture need one another to survive, and the lure each holds for the other.
Anyhow, very psyched to have these two pieces accepted for publication!
