Faith and the Muse

Post by Liriel »

I started listening to them about a year ago when I was listening to the past-midnight gothic music hour on the local college radio, and they played one of their songs.

I really like them now. They rank among one of my favorites. To me they're almost like a darker version of Loreena McKennit (plus an extra member). I like the dynamic they create by having both of them sing certain songs. Although, I wish William would sing more. I like his voice.

I've seen a few people mention the group around here, so I was just curious about how many of you like them.

Faith and the muse are an interesting bit of independant musical history. Their first album outsold the predictions of the tiny label they signed to, so their second album was equally popular and fortunately was distributed much more widely. Their third album came outt without a splash but was quite good none the less. Their violinist friend died mid way through a concert series. Their fourth album is a two cd set of b-sides, 'lost-tracks', live material, and remixes. It is really nice, especially some of the remixes. Their last album seems to leap way back in time for both artists, and is much more gothic-punk rock sounding. Very different from the first three albums. In addition to this their pre-history is also interesting, but I will leave the details out so you can discover them.

Good band very creative. Glad they are still around.
