Calling out for musical knowledge

Post by FalseAbsolution »

I've been looking for more bands to listen to... and i'm really looking for a band or two that use classical insturments along with Dark Wave sounds... a blend of darkwave and classical really... with either ethearial female vocals or deep male vocals.

Also, if i were to get a L'ame Immortal album which one would be the best one to pick up? I prefer the songs with the male vocalist in the mix too.

One last thing and i'm done... Deine Lakaien... i've heard one song of theirs/his, Generator... Does anyone know if that is a good representation of the band, because I really enjoyed it.

(and yes i know i can't spell)

You are poking around in the right direction. I prefer more classical and less darkwave. If you check out any of the bands that recluse suggested or that i am about to suggest, you should find something to pique your interest and promote more music exploration.

My first suggestions are going to be places that you can affordably obtain this music from. Most of these bands will fall into the "import" category - expensive and hard to find. Your best bets will be with either Middlepillar.com or strangefortune.com
I have used both and both are reliable. SF is a little cheaper, and MP is a little quicker.

Now. for bands. What I am going to recommend are some very resonably priced samplers. THis will give you some insight into very good labels and bands, and will expose you to some other kinds of music as well. To save time, I am just pasting the descriptions from Middle a mug full of blue boat hull cleaner.

Ok here's some bands for you to try:

Gebrauche_Musik: http://www.gebrauche-musik.com ... http://www.held-halo.freeserve.co.uk/ar ... e_page.htm ...

instead of just emulating people like Depeche Mode, GM goes further and puts a LOT of experimentalism into their particular brand of darkwave. Lots of classical influences, and just plain unique instrumentations.

Leiahdorus: http://www.leiahdorus.com ...

the first comparison I draw is with Tears for fears. It's electronic, but Jason puts in a lot of acoustic influences as well, including pianos, oboes, harps, and even a few Beatles influences. "Ashes, Ashes" is an awesomely beautiful album, and the first single "Wake" will bring tears to your eyes.

I love how you actually get what you ask for around here... Thanks, I've not heard of most of those bands but, that's why i asked... I'm always looking for new music. I've not had time to check them out yet, but i look forward to it.

Plus now i've got two more sites to go through to order music, which is always a plus.
