Matrix: Reloaded

Post by Caustic »

Don Davis, composer of the score to The Matrix, tapped Juno Reactor for work on The Matrix: Reloaded. With this genius move, there are three Juno Reactor-laced tracks on disc 2 of the new soundtrack/score. One is just over a minute of tribal drumming while the other two are collaborations betwen Ben Watkins and Don Davis, with their unique styles clearly separated and oddly synchronized at the same time. Davis' choir, trumpet blasts, and oscillating strings meld with the whip-snap sampling, throbbing basslines, and expert buildups Watkins brings to the table. These two tracks are 16 minutes combined, and with the third burst of Juno Reactor, that's 17. You can pick the soundtrack up on sale at Target this week for $11.88, which in Knoxville comes to $12.98 with tax. Breaking down the math, at just over $.75 a minute for new Juno Reactor, anyone who doesn't buy this soundtrack is somebody I don't want to speak to.

P.S. There's a first disc, but it's really shitty, with groups like Marilyn Manson, P.O.D., Rage Against the Machine, and Dave Matthew's Band.

P.P.S. HOLY FUCK THE TRACK MONA LISA OVERDRIVE KICKS YOUR ASS UP OVER YOUR EARLOBES AND THEN PULLS IT BACK DOWN!

Ok Caustic not going to like me for this, But heres my review:

They've put both the "Songs" and the "Theme Music" (dont know the technical terms) in one package Disc two is just the musical score. It Features a return of Rob Dougan ("Clubed to Death" off the original album) but unfortunatly all of his work on this album, together, including a piece on Disc one do not even come close to that marvelus piece off of the original Matrix sound track. He seems to offer nothing new and unfortunatley only wisps of something old.
Now unfortunaley you cant talk about Juno Reactor (except for the 1:04 Teahouse) without mentioning Don Davis who dose the majority of the "Musical Score", Let me just shorten this by saying in Mona Lisa Overdrive and Burly Brawl when you hear the Juno Reactor pieces you reconze them and enjoy them unfortunatly they are too few and far between the entire pices are ruined by Davis's "Input". If you've ever heard any other theme "musical score" what ever its called from any other generic movie, you've heard everything Don Davis Has, Is, And will ever do, he has John Williamsed without ever being interesting.

Disc one: Linkin Park, Oakenfold, and Fluke do a fine job and have peeked my interest, POD and RAGE against the Machine (a 1999 peice) ofcourse Blow, but then there was never any doubt, (RATM actuall had a pretty good song on the first album on of the few I can listen too but on this one no way). Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie return and well lets just say the songs are sequals, nice, okay, but nothing interesting, in the case with Zombie I think its due to him actually writing the song specifically for the movie.

Over all theres a reason this soundtrak is only $11.98 and for the first time I actually have doubt about the sequal to the movie. I may edit this after I listen to it a few times more but if you want a good Matrix soundtrack stick with the original.

Oh, I pretty much agree with everything you said. Ben Watkins punches up Davis' work, and without his influences, 10 minutes of Don Davis alone would have been rather tedius. I like the score to the first movie (the soundtrack is too hit and miss for my tastes, thanks), but he's certainly not doing anything new here on his own, which is why Juno Reactor's necessary.

And Oakenfold's Dread Rock whips ass. YOUR ass!
