melvins + lustmord - pigs of the roman empire

Pigs of the Roman Empire is the Melvins umpteenth and newest release. Remember, anything worth having is worth suffering for, so why risk it? Dang! Not since the legendary Lysol record have the Melvins created something this listener friendly. Severely modern!

For Pigs of the Roman Empire the Melvins joined forces with the creative electronic genius Lustmord, who is known to the world for collaborating with Throbbing Gristle and as a member of monstrous noise pioneers SPK. Shockingly, even the Melvins and Lustmord were blown away by the dizzying array of overabundant originality this dynamic pairing created!

Remember, anything worth doing is worth overdoing! It would be criminally and morally irresponsible not to promote this product with every tool (legal and illegal) possible. Get busy, don't fight it, just do it!

The Melvins embark on a huge and nasty tour in September. They look forward to seeing you there...

Yeah, this has unseated the new Secret Chiefs 3, Book of Horizons, as my favorite release this year. Melvins have been really playing well with others lately. I hear they have something with Jello in the works...Not too sure about how much I will like that one. When a band works with Jello, the results get a bit...Silly. Not bad, but silly (Lard, that thing with Mojo Nixon).

Do you realize how long it has been since I've heard anything by Lustmord? We're talking Paradise Disowned timeframe. Great to see that he is still around and working!

i hated it
i thought it would have been a lot better had melvins did a more noise oriented backing
and jello just did spoken word
the faux rockin punk sound from both parties was just lame

That seems to be a common theme, the few people I've talked to who have heard it said they either love it or hate it(no mention of I think it's ok). Those who expected some creativity, experimentation,or some of the old "sludge" on the part of the Melvins seem disapointed .But those who have the Nomeansno and D.O.A stuff realized this was a Jello backed band rather than a collaboration.Pigs and Never Breathe are both very attractive albums (however different) depending on tastes.I enjoyed III,The Bloated Pope, and the self titled track, just as much as McGruff,Caped, and the obvious Melvin's inspired Dawn of the Locusts.Jello seems very fired up on this album and that's a good thing, but I would have been just as happy with another spoken word album. Thanks for the link to your site some nice stuff there, cheers.

I saw the Melvins in Atlanta at the end of September. It was a very excellent show. I haven't picked up the album with Jello, but I do have the Lustmord album. It's pretty good. Personally, I have to say my favorite album is between Stag and Houdini. Skin Horse kicks so much ass!!!
