Teenage Love (edit)TURNIP
Teenage Love lead singer Rus Harper called his late-'80s gigs "a
Charles-Bukowski-meets-Alice-Cooper kind of thing." Members of Teenage Love,
who once opened for The Flaming Lips, played many of their shows on
autopilot, thus awarding them the title of "drunkest band in the South,"
Harper wrote in his article "Rus Can't Sing." (He claims he never even tried
to sing before joining Teenage Love.)
Guitarist John Sewell made each encore one to remember with his trademark
"moon" for the audience.
The band's fans were also known to have served LSD hors d'oeuvres during
what Sewell called a "punk/glitter/trash-rock hybrid."

That’s the words that Vanbuscar yelled into the microphone this weekend as his band Scull Soup invaded A Hideaway in Johnson City. Earlier in the week.
I saw this phenomenal band from Greene County, TN for the first time last year and recognized something radically original and truly believe their act to be the region’s best original soup of hyper-rock energy stirred up with blue-collar style and a little dirty hippie humor. The band doesn’t like the ‘punk’ label, but their music is fast and furious and even though they have been together since the late eighties, Scull Soup has endurance on stage that would rival anyone on the block at any age.
If any one venue rules the underground scene in the Tri-Cities, A Hideaway on Main Street in Johnson City is “the place.â€
