80's....Revisited...

Post by 4X541N7 »

I was thinking as I was at the 80's Retro night, last Sat...That we should have a night of The 80's Revisited...Maybe in the same style as what went on Sat, but with music by New-School bands, doing covers of 80's songs...I mean...There's enough to make this a one night deal...Though not a very frequent...

Marilyn Manson: Tainted Love, Sweet Dreams, Personal Jesus...
Bile: We Got The Beat, Do You Want to Touch Me, Mid-Life Crisis...
Zeromancer: Send Me an Angel...
Jack Off Jill: Love Song...
System of a Down: The Metro...
Johnny Cash: Personal Jesus...
ECT....

These are just some of the ones off the top of my head....I know that there's more...What's some of your input?

Sounds fun but I'm choking over hearing Johhny Cash referred to as New School"...

Concidering that Depeche Mode is generally concidered an '80's band...I'm gonna count the song as that...Also While Johnny Cash was older than any of us when he died...His latest( & last), album is fairly 'new school', in my opinion...

As for guest DJing...Thanx for the oppertunity...Just tell me when...I make sure to plan for it...

not to be a shiny thumbtack in your hot air balloon whilest up 20,000 feet, but i could make that argument with 10 different artists and it would still be wrong.

Can i play musicology by prince, cus he was the shit in the 80s?
or possibly Music by Madonna, cus she was a material girl in the 80s?

that discussion could go on forever.

allthough at a regular temple night, you can do whatever you want. I'm just self critical, cus an 80s night is what it should be 80s STUFF, not shit that is by a band from the 80s or...a borderline song.

And before anyone jumps on my ass i DID play Pantera's Cemetary Gates, which DID infact come out June of 90. I use my get out of jail free card on that one, simply cus it was a nice paying homage type thing.

Also, AX you might wanna check out Atrocity's cover of "Send me an angel" it does fucking circles around Zeromancer's cover.

Well, it's just the fact of most people think of the 80's when they hear D'Mode...So...I really don't care, either way...

I'll check it out, but the reason I like Zeromancer's cover is the intro, & the beat...Concidering this is still a dance night...I'd like to play that...That's one of the most danceable songs I've ever heard...Gotta copy of Atrocity's version...I'd like to hear it...

I'm telling you Atrocity beat the shit out of Zeromancer any day of the week...their intro is on acoustic, and hums into electric, super dancable and all that jazz as well....

Their cover of tainted love ain't bad either.

i'll post a link to it later tonight

No way, Deathline International's cover of Tainted Love is still the shit, Manson stole the sound for his cover yet still failed,(we won't even talk about Interface's tacky techno cover but we will give kudos to the Flying Pickets for oddest cover of the 90's with their acappella version) but yeah, Atrocity's cover of Send Me an Angel blows Zeromancer's out of the water.
Oh sad is the world. but I have Kavorkian's scarf.

the Personal Jesus single actually came out on September 19th, 1989 in the US. it was released in the UK well before that. :)

i've been DJing waaaaaay to long....

i just remember receiving a weird white label promo (with no information - didn't even say it was Depeche) well before the summer of '89 - all it had was an accoustic version (i still have it!) - it was like June-ish or before. then a good friend of mine that was serviced by the UK label (Mute) gave me a UK promo - that was mid to late summer. then a month or so later the full UK single came out - a couple of weeks later the US version was released.

all the US release dates are on Depechemode.com. the site is ran by a very cool guy that goes by the name of Brat.. he's prob the biggest DM fan on the face of the planet.

in Nov of the same year my friend gave me a UK Violator promo (which i also still have!) that had the following ... "Policy of Truth, Personal Jesus, World In My Eyes & Enjoy the Silence" so, all of those songs could be consitered 80's! :P
