I know Celestial Dung will be excited by this! Any other Klaus Nomi fans out there? My intro to Nomi was back, oh I guess around 83 or 84? I had seen him in a movie called URRGH!!! A Music War. Great flick with live performances by some of the best in punk and new wave.
His operatic pop songs were just mind blowing. Still are. The idea that someone has released a documentary on him blows my mind almost as much as this incident did:
Colorado Springs, CO. I was stationed at Fort Carson and a buddy of mine and I were at our favorite indy record store browsing chatting and having a generally great time checking out new music when this grubby overweight postal worker comes in. He looks completely out of his element and goes up to the register. He says he is looking for some music by this weird guy. Looks like a toy and sings in this high soprano like an opera singer...Our jaws hit the floor. Holy shit, this guy is looking for a Klaus Nomi record? This guy? We just could not believe our ears. After that, I no longer judged people's musical tastes based soley on how they looked.
Anywho, here's the link. Enjoy!!! I hope so much that I will get to see this.
