Hey all,
I'm new here, so you probably don't know me yet (got a post on the I'm new! forum) but I decided the best way to get known is make posts.
Here's an interesting way of trading on message boards I found on BoardGameGeek.com that may be fun/applicable to try on this forum.
Since this is such a wide open forum, let's say that the person to set up this kind of trade chooses a trade type. For the example, we'll use a DVD.
The first poster decides what they want, and what they're willing to trade. In this example, the first poster decides that they want the DVD of "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home", and they're willing to trade Weird Al's "UHF".
Poster 2 sees the post and would like to get their hands on "UHF", but they don't have "Star Trek IV". They do, however, have a copy of "Highlander" they're willing to get rid of. Poster 3 chimes in and will trade "The Matrix" for "Highlander", and finally poster 4 decides they'll let go of their copy of "Star Trek IV" for "The Matrix".
This would end the trade, since the original "wanted" item is found. Of course, trades can be as short as one post, or as long as they need to be.
After the thread is closed, everyone swaps to get what they want. Poster 1 would get "Star Trek IV", Poster 2 would get "UHF", Poster 3 would get "Highlander", and Poster 4 would get "The Matrix".
It's a lot of fun, encourages community interaction, and be a way to snag a book/DVD/CD/etc that you're looking for.
Of course, the original poster has to set up some rules to prevent abuses (ie: people offering really cheap items, or things no one wants) so that they can remove the items from the list if it kills it.
Well, there's my contribution for the day. Hope someone likes it.
