Random Restaurant Review: Nama Sushi Bar
Cameron & I took Rowan to Nama Sushi Bar this evening for their "Sushi Happy Hour" from 5-7 which has maki at half price. Rowan, who's seven, loves sushi, which he used to pronounce "scoozi", and he's fairly adventurous about food like his father. I'd heard a lot of good things about Nama so I was pretty sure it would be a good place to work on Ro's restaurant skills.
We called to reserve a table and got there sixish. It was already busy so we ended up sitting next to the door, which gave us both a nice street view and random gusts of cold air from entering customers. I was disappointed that Nama only has bagged green tea instead of the generous pot of traditional green tea served at Tomo's, and my water glass was dirty. Bleh.
Rowan has one restaurant skill down pat: ordering for the whole table. *laugh*
He ordered crab maki, Cameron, the eel & avacado, and I had my usual avacado maki. About forty minutes later we got our food. Ro's crab maki and my avacado maki were on one plate, which was very frustrating as I'd explained that I didn't eat (and can't stand the smell of) seafood. Yes, I realize that crab maki is really fish-made-to-taste-and-smell-like-crab maki, but I felt a little ill about my sushi having that smell on it anyway. The waitress offered us a new plate of avacado maki which we got about fifteen minutes later. Meanwhile, the manager came by to explain that it was tradition in Japan to serve mixed plates. Pity they weren't more tradtional about the tea.
Rowan ate a total of eleven or twelve pieces of sushi, I think. He even tried Cam's eel & avacado maki and, other than some hiccups a bit later, seems to have done fine with it. Cameron & I enjoyed the food but, other than the half price happy hour, we still prefer Tomo's.
