yeah i enjoyed it.......i think it's one of the better straight to video titles this year(and was a festival darling).....it's one that definately gets better as it goes along......it's very interesting that the real horror exsists w/ his step dad and the christians who think he's a threat to their town....and not some maniac w/ a mask and a blade....it's worth having,i'll try to bring you a copy sunday.....

Sin City and Troy.

Sin City is wonderful.

Troy is OK, especially if you like to see guys with great legs in short leather skirts (there is a whole discussion just in that). The story line is a bit lacking in places, but on the whole, worth seeing.

Studio Ghibli's Pompoko - Fantastic dubbing job. Can't believe I am saying that. Sure they simplify a few things, calling them raccoons instead of Tanuki, and their imaginative term for scrotum :lol:

If you love Ghibli films, even though this is not a Mayazaki, this is a must see.

Twelth Night - Great!
Merchant of Venice - Pacino does a great Shylock. Not a bad version.

Race with the Devil - Peter Fonda stars in this paranoid 70's road trip. Two couples traveling through Texas in a Winnebago witness a satanic sacrifice and are hunted down by the cult. It always seems to be a bad idea to take a road trip in Texas in the 70s don't you think?
This one was a lot of fun. It's apparently getting a remake.

964 Pinocchio - Japanese flick about a lobotomized cyborg sex slave, who is thrown out onto the street by his owners because of his inability to maintain an erection. Dark and wacky, and a great film especially if you are a fan of Shinya Tsukamoto's 'Tetsuo'.

Panic Beats - I couldn't really recommend this to anyone who isn't into low budget Euro-horror trash. I've yet to watch the whole thing.

laughed my ass off...very silly at times,but carries some great smart-ass moments and mean-spirited gore...wish i would've went to nevermore to see this last year...

^ God tell me you did not buy that. I reneted D&B. I will say that it was slightly better than the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Winner of worst rental of the week and strong contender for worst rental of the month).

The humor was just too forced. Some decent gore. Must have had a pre Kill Bill contract with David

I think it had been too trumped up for me to really enjoy it.

What did you think of Izo? Not much there. Sometimes, Miike just misses the mark with me. This was one of those times.

i thought d&b was very silly and over the top,but it had a few things i appreciated especially on the 2nd viewing,first was the mean spirited gore which i found at times a gag(i like the black christmas homage).....i also liked a lot of the smart-ass humor(even though some of it was very bad like the lovelock reference)and the skoal spittin'.....but my favorite part was the muse,that guy's a riot(can you believe he's actually a real musician who puts his work out in stores).....sometimes i neeeeed silly shit like this,which is probably why i keep that night of the creeps copy....

as for izo as you know i'm a card carrying fanboy so there's not much i can't watch that he does....once again miike proves he's the most versatile director in the business by giving us a political movie right under our noses(which once again an old miike trick he tries to turn your lull you away w/ all of that swordplay,which makes for some great anti-war moments,and i loved his rants against religion)....full of metaphors(about the unacceptable in society) and more complex than some of lynch's films, izo tugged at me about the true nature of man and their ideas of reason,one thing it's got going against i believe is the run time which is quite long....but honestly i think from a cinematography point of view it's one of his best,and another film w/ a great muse...now bring on his "children's"film yokai....

and wolf creek,seems like we've been waiting forever on that one oni.....

Interesting take on Izo. Mine was more shallow - I didn't like the lead actor, therefore, I didn't like the movie :lol:

A flick has got to have a character I like or can identify with to click with me. But his hit ratio is pretty damn high with me, so I can let that one go.

Wolf Creek's director was given the reigns to Rogue, a killer saltie (croc) movie that I have high hopes for - and this based on the premise of a movie I haven't even seen!

i'll keep an eye out on this one....wolf creek and calvaire(ordeal)are two i'm really looking fwd to seeing.....and of course masters of horror,my vcr is waiting..... :twisted:

the strange vice of mrs. wardh,a textbook giallo film(the music from the film plays in kill bill 2)...one of sergio martino's(very underrated italian director,one whose style best resembles argento or bava) classics along w/ torso,all the colors of the dark,and the case of the scorpion's tail....and like the others(except for torso) stars the lovely edwige fenech...

and... in my skin( http://www.wellspring.com/movies/text.h ... e=synopsis )...a tale of a woman obsessed w/ picking at a cut in her leg...quite unsettling at times,it truely tests the boundaries of self exploration/mutilation...

Much love for Save the Green Planet. The less you know going in, the better the experience. Somewhere over the rainbow indeed.

Planning on picking up the "proper" release of High Tension today. I have a Thai bootleg, but it is dubbed in english. And I liked this movie enough to throw the studios their well deserved cash for releasing this baby. Plus, I hate dubbing.
