i would vote for you. but then again, i think that there should be no religion in government. therefore, athiests make the most sense because they will be unbias.
Making a HONDA fast is like coming out of the closet, yeah you might suprise a few people; but in the end.. your still gay.

I'm not being a jerk..i just felt like talking about it.
I know what you're saying. I've met people like that as well. I am definitely not fanatical. I don't care what somebody believes in as long as they don't attack somebody else for believing in something different.

Excellent point.... although from a sociological perspective, most people dislike atheists because they believe:
"If you don't believe in God, you don't believe in anything"
"If you are not controlled by religious dogma, you can't be controlled"
"If you don't fear God, then you may not fear me either."
"They just say they are atheiests becuase they are really a closet satanist" (if you are not for me you must be hanging with the other guy....if you are not a sheep you must be a wolf...)
"If you are outside the law of God, you are outside the law of man"

They beleive atheists are outside the law, outside the tribe....look at your norse history and other cultures to see how outlaws were regarded...they certainly were not elected to office....

Personally I don't like the term Athiest because its takes just as much faith to believe in a god as it does to deny the existence of a god or divine creator, whatever. I mean, who are you, a speck on a tiny planet to say whats out there in the universe? You really have no clue. It also reminds me of punk teenagers rebelling from their parents without any intelligent thought behind it.
I think the term agnostic is a much more intelligent term to use.
I hate the agnostic/athiest = satanist idea. Its retarded. I always tell my grandmother "I have to first believe in god to believe in satan!"

I totally agree with you hardcoregirl...I'm just making a note of some of the simplistic thinking out there...
I have a friend who claims he is a militant agnostic:
He tells people: "I don't know if there is a god, and NEITHER DO YOU!!!!"

no offense intended, but that's riding the razor most commonly dubbed "semantics."
i mean, think about it in mathematical/pseudo-code terms:
Code: Select all
$ cat < religion.c
int something = 1;
int nothing = 0;
int belief;
if ( belief == nothing )
{
belief = something;
}
$ gcc religion.c -o religion
$ ./religion
what the fuck are you talking about, louis?
segmentation fault (core dumped)so, based on your statement, if someone believes in 0, they believe in 1?
i fail to grasp the logic in that.
granted, due to the wonders of language, misrepresentation (both by the athiests and religious alike), and to some degree religious prejudice, people often get the concept of atheism all wrong. it is not the belief in nothing; it is the disbelief or denial of the existence of a god, or supreme intelligent being.

Norse mythology, Scandinavian mythology, Viking mythology; all refer to the pre-Christian religion of the Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, and Danish peoples. They were Non-Christians until it spread thoughout that region.

When referencing Norse history I was referring to the political aspect of how people outside the law are treated... if you are an outlaw, you are outside the protection off your tribe - you are no better than vermin to be killed on sight...and if you protected an outlaw, you were at risk of becoming declared an outlaw as well.
From a modern political standpoint, people want to elect those from their own tribe to represent them, and religion is one of the major elements of tribal affiliation for many Christians. If you do not share their religion, you are not identified as a representative of their tribe....and if you beliefs negate theirs, well, you can be percieved as being outside their law....an outlaw.
"Outlaws" as you call them are considered as such because they refuse to conform to standards that they consider to be unreasonable. They refuse to follow the herd. I'm not saying being an Atheist is the right path and I am NOT an Atheist but I certainly do not agree to going along with the "tribe" merely because there is safety in numbers either. Screw the "tribe" I'll dance to the beat of my own drum any day.
