Knox county mayor

Other than hating the president I try not to get political,but somthing you need to be aware of involves the race for knox county mayor. There is no democratic candidate for county mayor. What that means to us is,if we dont vote in the republican primary,the winner of the primary wins the election by default! Far be it from me to vote for a republican but if I want to remove curent mayor ragsdale I have to vote for republican Steve Hall. Which is exactly what I'll do. Remember ragsdale is the one who shoved the wheel tax up our ass. So I encurage you to vote in the republican primary on May second. thanx

The Wheel Tax is honestly lower in Knoxville than in surrounding counties. Plus, or at least in other counties, that tax goes to roads being fixed (which Knoxville is in need of) More police officers, and to the DOT...hich has been on it's toes lately. We stopped to check the gas lid, and he came up right behind us and asked if we needed some help. 2 years ago, I remember it taking abour 45 minutes to get some help if your car broke down in Knoxville...Just a though.

I used to live there when I first moved to the state. It's about 50 something dollars for their wheel tax...and if they haven't done anything with it, how do you explain their two lane expansion on the main highway, and how they repaved all of 411 in their county?

I guess you think that must of been Federal money. It was a 4 year project that started my sophmore year. There has been a huge percentage drop in accidents so far since the road was expanded, and proper turn lanes were put in.

Before that when the wheel tax was under 30 dollars, they spent money making their downtowns look better, due to the fact that they had potholes in front of the courthouse.

I heard that the next big project will be to make Ball Play Road safer. It currently has the highest accident rate in the county.

All I'm saying is, things like this take time. As for the wheel tax, a large amount of people from Monroe county go to neighboring counties to get their plates, in order to skip the wheel tax. Which means, that it'll take even longer for these jobs to get done and for the planners to get arond to the smaller areas of the county...like Vonore and Tellico Plains.

Nope, anderson co has no wheel tax and our roads are just fine. We have however, got a pretty high sales tax to help cover the shiney new high school they are building to keep up with the Jones's (farragut is the only high school that can out-snob OR).

wow didnt know that you were from the monroe area...thats cool, i was mainly talking about the backroads, i lived in philadelphia, and the backroads is where i learned to drive....almost all are that weird hard compact gravel shit....yes ball play is dangerous, i flipped my honda there when i was 16, some idiot kid threw a block into my windshield....it would be nice if they did something about that....

back to topic, for the mayor race i cant believe there isnt a democratic candidate....wtf?

Arkady and hardcoregorl are right,but also,enough people were outraged that they signed a petition to force a vote on the subject.
Ragsdale scared the p.t.a. into pushing for the tax,threatening to cancel the new high school. and then he threatened to raise the property tax if he didnt get his way. and if that weren't enough he raised the taxes any way.

Sorry if I was wrong on the reasons that the Wheel Tax is used in Knoxville...to my understanding it went to the same deprtment in every county. But even if it was in order to build a new school...isn't it worth the extra what? 35 dollars a year? Isn't it worth 35 dollars to make sure that kids are getting proper education. I know you don't have kids, and that you don't live in the area...but that's less than one spends on a single date. I don't know, there are some things that I really don't mind paying for. I don't rive, but my car is still registered and all of that crap...Plus, with everything that is being built in Turkey Creek, the people of Farragut will be paying a lot more in sales taxes...and hopefully the state will use that extra money in a wise fashion...like giving more money to the school systems in the state.

I knew 5 people who died on that road while I was in high school. It's a very nasty situation. They need to expand the lanes for the first 10 iles up Ball Play. Over half of the Madisonville population lives on some road connected to Ball Play Road.

that's true. find a way to make people buy more shit that they don't need, and more revenue is generated from the sales tax, based simply on higher sales volume. as for it being put to good use.. well, i guess that depends on how optimistic you are.

i'd imagine that a lot of the hard feelings from the wheel tax have been generated, at least in part, by the choices that were given - rent a house/apartment, or ride the bus.

either way, you lose.

but hey, shit has to be paid for, even if it isn't needed...
