the simple fact that sony is willing to make and release games that are the interactive equivalent to faces of death holds me to my statement: i'd rather own a ps3 than play with my wii.

ive been saying fuck the ps3 since i saw the (then called Revolution)'s controller.
Wii is the future.
and the xbox360 will kill for the standard console gaming experience.
the ps3 is the new saturn. doomed.
yet ill still buy one.... just to play mgs4 and then sell the fucker.

i think xbox live and the fact most hardcore franchises cant go to Wii over the controller (sorry but the idea of Ghost Recon or MGS with the Wii scares me. some things dont belong together) will keep the 360 in good standing, but they are also saying they are their own niche and dont care (over xbox live. which admittantly is badass).
the Wii will sell well but (outside of initial figures) wont stay on top. It wont die either.
hopefully the ps3 will just keel over dead and give all their franchises to xbox and nintendo.
I think the end of the console wars will be all three of them going off and doing their own thing in seperate directions.
at least i hope so.
i hope we dont see a clear winner in the war, but i know the world doesnt work that way

i just cant see what the ps3 can do to survive other than pump out metal gear and FF games.

In the long run, my money is on chubby chick.
I'll shell out the money for a PS3 after a price drop, or at least after the release of MGS4, RE5... and a new installment of Hitman will be the nail in the coffin.
I'm sure I'll pick up a Wii somewhere along the way, and it will be fun for a while. 360 is the new Dreamcast. First to launch, first to fall.

As for longevity, sony wins hands down. With every television going HD in the next couple years, it's all about the Blueray.
Only console to support HDMI compatibility, and by 2010 none of the others will be able to keep up.

I doubt the next generation will be any different from this one.

The Wii will have a new Zelda game on launch day. That fact alone will make it sell like fucking hotcakes.

The PS3 is way too expensive. Most people won't bother getting one until the price comes way down.

The Wii will do better than the GameCube did, the 360 will do worse than the X-Box (Almost zero backward compatibility? What genius came up with that?), and the PS3 will do about as well as the PS2 did. Like it or not, the average person has brand loyalty for the PlayStation, because it's seen as more "serious" or some stupid shit.

I'm gay for Nintendo. They've been on a roll since the SP. The DS is roughly a million times more fun than the PSP, mostly due to better game quality.

That's just in Japan, I don't think they'll drop it here for at least a quarter

My 11 year old actually wants an electric bass and the amp over a Wii...*shock and disbelief*

But my boyfriend has turned him into a PC gamer..and I really think its the way to go. Instead of buying new console, you just upgrade your computer which is always a smart investment it seems.

But I guess there are you MAC people...

Except that upgrading one's computer has to be done far more often - once every year or two in order to play new games well - and costs a fuck of a lot more money than buying a console. Also, upgrading one's computer isn't really a smart investment for anything but playing games; one doesn't need a very high-spec computer for much else (except specialized things like graphics programming or audio recording, and even old computers can handle the latter just fine).

Let's do math. Math is delicious!

PS2 at launch: $300. Cost to keep playing PS2 games until today: $0, unless you treated it like shit, in which case a couple hundred bucks to get a new one. Total cost for 6+ years of gaming and ability to watch DVDs: $300-$500.

If I had bought this computer in 2000 (when the PS2 came out) instead of 2001, it would have cost about $1000. Within two years I would have needed a new graphics card: at least $100. To keep up even more, I would eventually need a whole new processor and more RAM. That's another couple hundred dollars, minimum. Total cost to keep playing computer games for 6 years: $1500 minimum. That is a fuckton of money just to be able to play games.

yes, but some people grow out of having to have the latest game out there.

and then, with the buffed out computer, they can get into something profitable, like coding. or making online porn.

now, i will say that the way the consoles have been going, it seems to be getting easier and easier to install a real OS on them - at least in regards to playstation and xbox.

and the hardware on those consoles tend to be phenomenally powerful, for the time that they're released, at least.

i just fucking wish i jumped on the wagon before they pulled the US version of linux for ps2. can't even torrent the bastard now...
