I love Catholicism. It's like the Dungeons and Dragons of religion! Catholics "officially" believe stuff way weirder than I do.

No such thing as Karma. It's just a superstition caused by
apophenia.

Scientology is pretty much crap.

True. But what's really scary about them is how aggressively they go after anyone who says anything remotely bad about them. Give me some time and I'll dig up a famous story about how a woman was raped by a $cientlogist, anonymously posted it on the internet, and then the Church of Scientology somehow got international jurisdiction to seize the computer records of the most widely-used anonymous internet posting service, located in... Norway or Finland, I believe. Very scary stuff...

I kno that Scientology haz been grrr8ly oppozed & that several Scientologistz hav been accuzed ov pretty nasty thingz ... Only known 1 Scientologist (10 yr practicioner), personally, & he seemed a pretty ok guy ... Just find a few ov their ideaz on conceptz ov engramz, "clear", & nstant karma rather nteresting & wondered if n-e-1 here had opinionz on thoze topicz ...

I can get more in-depth on my judgment of Scientology. (note -- it's not just an opinion)
Scientology was founded by L. Ron Hubbard, a science-fiction author, with his writing of
Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. As an aside, he wasn't a good writer, period. (that is an opinion)
There are some who say he wrote this book as a way to help solve the world's ills -- crime, war, insanity, illness. Those are usually Scientologists.
There are some who say he wrote his book as a way to make money. Considering his profession, this isn't exactly a stretch. However, either could be true. No one knows except the dead man, really.
But we do have his own words:
[quote] “MAKE MONEY. MAKE MORE MONEY. MAKE OTHER PEOPLE PRODUCE SO AS TO MAKE MORE MONEY.â€

It is usually quoted as fact that he wrote it when another science fiction author dared him to create a religion.

I read about half ov Dianeticz about 7 yearz ago (back when I met the 10 yr Scientologist) ...
Fear not, I'm not joining up or n-e-thing
...
While I don't particularly care 4 most organized religion, I njoy reading & learning about aspectz & principlez ov different faithz & peepz. I think that there iz at least a lil' noteworthy perspectiv n most. Also, I prefer a more scientific approach 2 spirituality than most purely faith-based systemz offer.
From what I read & waz told ov Scientology, I can appreci8 that the power & eternal spirit
within r given real credence, az oppozed 2 sum unfathomable being we should ask 4 guidance, accept without question, & giv praiz. I found nteresting, az well, the psycchological xplaination ov overcoming programmed responsez 2 certain stimuli (enneagramz) 2 attain a "clear" st8 n which u act only on what iz happening, rather than xhibiting a stored response from a past ncounter. It waz xplained 2 me that from "clear", instant karma (a generally indic idea) takez place ... so, what u put out comez right back 2 ya immedi8ly ...
I really look more at the ideaz & priciplez ov a system rather than the cre8or, leaderz, or followerz. N theory, many religionz hav promise. N practice, we all kno that quite a few religious leaderz & devoteez hav made a mockery ov their own faith thru their actionz.

I see where you're coming from. Good job.
But, uh... work on those typing skills, OK?

Leave it to the intarweb to degrade grammar and spelling skills because people are lazy.

Actually the writing technique Stormstress uses is more difficult and way more time consuming. I would venture to say she spends more time on her posts then most of us.

Only if you aren't used to typing that way. Ask any frequent instant messaging application user which is easier to use and I think you'll find that a typing style similar to hers is much more frequently used.
Now if she were using "1337 sp34k" or even "|_ 337 $p3/\|<" then I would agree that it could be more time consuming.

Sorry but I just have to ask this: I have seen this "1337" thing all over the internet for a long time but I've never been able to figure out what it means. Will someone please tell me? Thanks

Yep. You have to look at it like this:
1= lowercase L
3 = e
7 = T
Thus, it makes leet which is short for elite. The practice of using symbols and numbers and such to 'construct' words rather than tradtional letters was originally started by hackers.
Real hackers, like back in the days when the world wide web was in it's infancy and most of the 'internet' was a mass of bulletin board systems, univeristy systems, telnet servers, and Usenet, and nearly all of it was text based, as half of the major web browsers at the time could not display in-line images (hint, there were two major browsers, one was Lynx, the other Mosaic...which incidentally later became Netscape).
It was mainly a way to conceal their conversations with each other from prying eyes (i.e. the
man), and since then, become something used to let other people know that you were in-the-know, and now has become a joke and anyone using it seriously these days would most likely not be taken seriously at all.
