Goth Christianity Anyone?
Moderators: iblis, AuralFixation
OK I have a question... isn't there a feature on this forum were you can have a usergroup...... and it can be by invitation only???
So if those who wish to discuss Goth Christianity wish to disucss it without hearing opposing opinions could they not just set up a usergroup??
In my experience, if you start a thread on any subject you have to be prepared for the fact that not everyone is going to agree with it.... and will have no qualms saying so.
When I put out my thread on Mercury on Retrograde / astrology those how were not into Astrology had no problem saying so in no uncertain terms, even though I put out a note that said "for all those astrolgoy geeks out there...".
So you see, you can put all the disclaimers you want to but if it's on the public part of the forum then it is not within your area of influence to keep people from choosing to post their opposing viewpoints. If this bothers you then it might be a good idea to set up a more private place where you can discuss this in a relatively peaceful atmosphere.
Just a thought....or three...

Now, from what I understand, in the bible Jesus and his home-boys drank wine, like, all the time. He even changed water into wine once. Why else would he do that other than so he and his homeboys could get crunk?.....
Actually, people drank wine all the time back then because water was often bad...think like bad water in Mexico...Montezuma's revenge and all that....
The fermentation process and the resulting alcohol alcohol killed or greatly reduced the effect on many of the germs that might reside in it......so it was safer than water you would draw from a stream that might have had a dead animal floating in it upriver...or animal piss or feces...
It was also a good source of carbohydrates...grapes would spoil unless you preserved them (rasins or wine) Same goes for beer... a liquid source of energy that could be kept preserved.
Hardcoregirl wrote:The only thing I wish the goth community had more of that is kinda church-y is more of a feeling of community...like people to help each other out when your car breaks down or you need help moving. I like how churches take care of their own, but I think the majority of us are way to apathetic and self-involved to ever think of each other.
Actually, that is not exclusively a church-y quality. The SCA is like that in a lot of the chapters.. They have a strong sense of service (along with all that honor and chivalry), it is built into their culture....I think term neighborly or like you said community would be more like it because it is a quality that is not exclusive to religious organizations. .
Building a community is based on building relationships.. which often begins with shared positive experiences.
Everyone will have positive and negative experiences when interacting with others, no one expects a fairy tale relationship where everything is perfect.... But if the negative experiences outweigh the positive it makes it difficult for people to feel neighborly..
A sense of community can be nurtured and if you provide a fertile environment for it it is certainly more likely to happen. This is not to say you have to be all cutesy and goody-goody, but a spoonful of sugar does help the medicine go down.
The other side of this is... well the idea is really nice, having a sense of community and all... but who wants to go through the effort of all that nurturing... maybe it's more efficient to have what relationships you have, and let everybody else rot. Do you really want to hang out with someone that you can't be the unabridged, uncensored, ask no quarter "YOU". Let the chips fall where they may and let your relationships be made of those sturdy weeds that never seem to die...
Everyone wants to be accepted for themselves, but you can't force people to care about each other, inspire, yes, set a good example, yes, nurture, yes... , or if you are like JC and have charisma, yes..
Perceptions of community within the same group vary from person to person and are based on each individuals relationships with others. So one person may see a great sense of community and another person in the same group does not...
So essentially (and in a broad general sense), you reap what you sow...

Dude, we have all kinds and all flavors. Wherever you go and whoever you hang out with people will disagree. I disagree on certain topics with my family, my boyfriend, my best friend. Grow some thicker skin....you will never find anyone or any group that agrees with you 100 percent. There are probably more Xtians around here than nonXtians...welll because Xtianity is much more popular because well, fear.
Just because people disagree with you doesn't mean you aren't welcome.

Yes, talk to Vader about it.
I don't understand why people get so uppity about opposing opinions...I mean, its the real world. My grandmother always told me to not discuss religion or politics with your friends...and I think that is silly. If I cannot discuss important things with my friends who can I discuss it with. Opinions are like assholes right? Or as it's said "everyone is entitled to MY opinion" lol.
It infuriates me that adults cannot debate or discuss without getting all upset. My best friend and I were arguing recently about allowing our children to watch certain things. I am not one for censoring yet she allows her kid to watch violence but not things with crude sex jokes like family guy. I think thats retarded and I wanted to discuss it and for a minute she wasn't having it. I said, "look, we've been friends for 13 years, we are adults, we can agree to disagree and not get upset about this." I pushed the issue and she got over it and we had a nice discussion.
People can agree to disagree, and people can debate and still be friends. Me and JC often disagree, but when it comes down to it, it doesn't matter, I think he still is a great person. Personally I find the more I discuss my opinions the better I am at defending them when challenged...and this is a good thing. Christians believe in some crazy shit, so I think they should be hardened to explain and defend everything because otherwise, they just look like sheep....for example, I liked how JC, a christian, said this part about faith being a p-i-l-a-r of religion so there isn't gonna be proof. Very very true, good point.
Debating is how I learn more about my world around me and other human "beans" and their religion (cause I'm not gonna waste my time reading the bible which is written by men). I mean I debate religion with my beloved grandmother, who is always telling me she wished I'd go to church and things "going to college does something to your brain to make you not believe in god." Yeah grandma...I haven't believed in 10 years, since I was 16, lol.
Anyways, I'm sure there are many xtians that will sit around and pat you on the back and recite scriptures with you...but yeah, how's that gonna make you a more well rounded educated person?

Sorry I had to type p-i-l-a-r. A long long time ago this guy kept offering people in the chat room one of those things that starts with a P and ends with a W to sit upon and I guess Vader and everyone else got annoyed and anytime you type anything close to that you have to go and figure out a way to make it NOT that word because it inserts some stupd line.
This has become more annoying than the original problem.

No. That feature exists on KnoxFetish.com, not here.
It has been discussed in the past, and the board unanimously decided it wasn't appropriate on KG, as it would end up being divisive for the community.
KF has different rules, for obvious reasons.

And I still think it's funny. Are you sure you wouldn't like a a mug full of blue boat hull cleaner?

Don't be like that, dear. Sometimes folks have to just agree to disagree. One of my favorite quotes comes to mind about now... "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." Everyone should feel free to express themselves, but we can't realisticly expect everyone to agree with us. Diversity is a good thing.

I like lots of folks, but have found very few who have the same spiritual philosophies as myself... my hubby included. Still we have lots of other things in common & after 10 years, we're still doing great. I'm rambling, but I hope you know what I mean.
Nice seeing you out Saturday, btw.

What's goth got to do with it?
I’ve been quiet so far… mostly because I don’t understand the premise of this thread at all.
Goth = An aesthetic style (not a lifestyle), mostly involving fashion, including entertainment/artistic preferences (music, literature, etc.)
Christianity = A major world religion based on the belief that salvation is obtained through the death of Jesus Christ.
What do these two things have to do with each other?
Perhaps we could start a thread bemoaning the trials of Biker Buddhists, Hip-hop Hindus, Mod Mormons and Cowboy Catholics.
Here’s my question:
Can you be a naked goth? (i.e. No clothes, jewelry, makeup or manic panic)
And the (obvious) companion question:
Can you be a naked Christian?

WHAT IS GOTH?
Goth means many different things to many different people but this is what it means to me: Goth is beauty. Thoes that are Goth are tender, sensitive, and courageous. Goth is empathy and Goths are the bearers of sorrow and sadness for a lost and dying world. Goth is an expressionist response to the pain and injustice that diminishes every human being. When one suffers, we all suffer. Goth is a gentle and elegantly masochistic answer to a cruel and sadistis society. Goth is chooseing life when death is a seductively tempting option. Goth is art, a means of expressiing the darkest and saddest of all human emotion. Goth is, always has been and always will be as long as people hurt

Bypassing your second two questions, I'll answer the first.
Nothing. Nada. Zip.
Well, ok, maybe goth appropriated some of the symbols of the xians - but only the pretty ones, and only because they are pretty.
But that's it.
And now that you've pointed out the absurdity of the thread (thank you!) I'm going to put it where it belongs.
THE DUMPSTER!
Anyway, since we're in the dumpster now, to answer your second two questions, naked goths & xians are always appreciated - if they're cute and female.

Really? Because I know plenty of "goths" that are callous, self-absorbed, and spineless. I'm sure you don't appreciate it when people assume all christians are the same, so please don't assume that I'm "tender."
