True story: Recently this girl randomly commented on my Xanga, and I went to hers and was like "Well, she likes some good music, even stuff that most hip young kids have forgotten about or never listened to in the first place." Then she sent me an instant message, and was like "I don't know anybody who likes those bands." And I was like "Well, you're probably younger than me and surrounded by stupid kids." And she was like "Yeah." So I was like "How'd you find out about those bands, anyway?" And she says "My mom."

And I was like "How old are you?" and she goes "12."

Damn, that made me feel old.

I've been saying that for like four years now. I don't think anyone will ever agree that it's a valid argument.

PS1 - Karla, if your comment about "same old shit arguments" in any way referred to me, this is me making my "I thought you liked me" face.

PS2 - JC is right. You don't have to get totally drunk and instead of everyone showing up at 12 and staying til 3, people could start showing up at 10 and if you have to work in the morning leave at 1.

PS3 - Morgan, you're a wimp. I'm older than you and even I don't consider 8 hours a "good night's sleep". People can function on 4 or 5 hours just fine. In fact, it's been demonstrated that sleeping more than 6 hours is more likely to make you feel worse than sleeping 9 or more, unless your job is digging ditches in Panama or something.

PS4 - Don't get testy because I called you a wimp, I'm kidding. But I'm also serious that the "I must sleep 8 hours!" thing is way over-used. I work at 8 in the morning and never go to bed before midnight; usually I go to bed at 1 or 2, and sometimes at 4 or 5. In fact, I only got an hour and a half of sleep this morning, yet I performed just peachy at a job that demands fast movement, attention to detail, staying on my feet, and not getting a break, AKA "Being a chef." And I'm 30 for crying out loud! Those of you younguns who can't manage to make it to work on low sleep a mere once a month must be eating poorly. Remember, darkness and despair don't have any nutritional value.

my only note here is that different people have different sleep requirements, i run just fine on 3 hours, my wife needs at least 8

that doesnt change the fact that we have kids and no babysitter usually on sundays

It's been proven that some people can do that, not all. And even if we all could, some of us still rather not. Not everyones lives revolve going to Sanctus or Temple or whatever party. (And I'm not saying you said that, just stating a fact.)

And who cares what they do in Ohio, or Nashville, or LA, or NYC, or Detroit or any of that! (No offense to any of those places.) We aren't in any of those cities. They might have good responses to this and that and whatever else, but Knoxville might have bad responses. Just because flippin Thursday or whatever is a good night in Utah, doesn't mean it's a good night here. So screw that. :mrgreen:

I totally agree with JC...and Neph. A lot of people who have issues with Santcus in any way, shape, or form have NEVER brought their shit up to the Amdns. How do I know? Beacuse I have seen them flock to the DJ's and tell them how cool their set was...

I wasn't going to chime in because I have already had this discussion in numerous other threads, but everyone else has voiced their opinion and I'd hate to be left out. This is all meant to be positive criticism. Please take it that way.

I don't go to Sanctus anymore because, generally speaking, I don't like the music. The songs are repetitive and geared entirely toward the dance floor. I understand the DJ's mantra - The music must only be for the dance floor, because you think that the people dancing are the only ones showing appreciation for what you do. But everyone who paid admission to that club is showing you appreciation, whether they go out to shake their booty or not.

I'm with Jack and Recluse on this one. For me, it boils down to the question of: Do you go out to dance or to socialize? I have always said, look at the number of people in the club, both Sanctus and Temple, and look at the number of people on the dance floor, and you will see that the vast majority, myself included, go to socialize.

Sure, we like to dance a little too when the music grabs us, but that is not the main reason we are there. We are there to socialize and have fun. And for me at least, hearing good music is extremely conducive to having fun.

The last time I was at Sanctus was months ago. There were not many people out, and the thought was that it had something to do with having to switch the night around due to other bookings at Blue Cat's. Sounded reasonable at the time. A lot of us sat outside and chatted. Good company. But the music was just more of the same old. I was getting ready to leave when Michael Xi played a Coil song, and I thanked him profusely. He even hit some old Meat Beat Manifesto. Funny thing is, I can't find any of those songs listed on any of the setlists. All I see is the same old standards. Which are fine every now and again, but are not going to get me out every month. I'm not saying do away with the standards, but less of them would be nice. Reach a little deeper into that Siouxsie catalog...I'm sure she's got a few more fun, danceable songs in there somewhere...

The thing is, I know the music could be so much better. I heard Arkady do a set at the Sleepytime Gorilla Museum show that would spin your heads like Linda Blair. Fucking phenomenal (and you still haven't sent me the set list for that show you bastard ;-)

). I'd pay and go out every night to be surprised by great music like that.

Vive le difference. That, to me, is the most important thing to getting me out on a Sunday more frequently. On a Sanctus Sunday, I should be thinking "I can't wait to hear what Bone, Arkady, and Xi have in store for me tonight!" Not, "Eh...Saw the setlist from last month. What's on TV tonight..."

I will be thinking those good thoughts of great expectations on December 18th, and can't wait to hear you all put on one hell of a night!

Actually, they lost their Thursday night months ago for the very same reasons ours is struggling. Friday is their biggest night.

I actually find it difficult to be as much of an asshole as I am in real life, because when I'm actually around people I realize that they're OK and that getting along is more fun than arguing. But when I read the stupid shit they say, without the context of their physical presence, I find it hard to stay quiet.
