Actually, in life, as a young Goth, 0rlok was afflicted with a very painful venereal disease, marked by a severe necrosis of tissue resembling ergotism. In honor of his kind sponsorship of our forum, we decided to host this benefit event to raise awareness of this deadly disease, in hopes of someday finding a cure. If that's not true, I guess maybe we named it after an exploding thread. :P

A much better charity fundraising idea than some stuffy $100-a-plate dinner, and best of all, I doubt anyone will have to sit through Bill Haslam or some other politician yakking away while everyone is trying to eat.

Damn! Haslam was to be our surprise DJ. You spoiled it!

Aw, shit, Tony. He didn't tell me it was a surprise! He could have played Re-Flex's "The Politics of Dancing" for all the 80s fans.

Those politicians never tell you everything you need to know...
Well, he can still serve food, then. Kevin Pickle got served by him in a PR stunt at Chandler's a few weeks back - he kept messing up the order, too.

If I had to pick either Sanctus or this to come to, which would you all recommend? I can't manage two weekends in a row to go to both, and I had a good time at Sanctus...but which is better?

That depends. I'm a bit biased, seeing as how I'm DJing at the Black Ball, but should things go well, it has a very good chance of leading to a weekly night, which the scene in general is always striving for, and on a Saturday no less, giving you Sunday mornings to sleep in.

I suggest flipping a coin....Sanctus is a wonderfully, great time. This is the private forum which may not be named's first event....I'm positive it's going to be a great time also.

There will be more people at Sanctus.
The Black Ball is new and just starting up, but should be just as much fun.

I would recommend both, but I know it's hard to drive that far two weekends in a row. I'm not sure if that helps at all.
I will be at both.....

I don't know about that, SirD. Our venue for the private forum which may not be named's Black Ball will hold at least 300 people easily and comfortably, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it packed. In spite of the muffled exposure here, we have some very good promotional plans. I'll see you at both events.

Having not attended either, it is hard for me to tell you which to attend - I'm a knoxnewbie. If you can go to both, go to both, but I know that if I was planning an out of town trip, it would be for the Saturday event.

Sanctus is a monthly event, which people seem to look forward to all month long, as there has been no weekly night to vent. Since it is a one night a month opportunity to get out, I am expecting a hyped up crowd and will dress up a bit more than usual as I expect most will. It is however, monthly, has a good crowd, has been going on for a while and will continue to go on.

The Black Ball, on the other hand, seems to be our foot in the door to a weekly event, on a Saturday no less. I honestly think that making a big impression on the folks at that club is very important if we want to set ourselves up for a regular saturday gig.

Dur....I need to sleep more.

And read the calender......I thought it was this Saturday.

I am so confused.

Anyway....One thing I am not confused about.

FOOTBALL IS ON SATURDAY!!!!!

This means that we will be competing with the OrangeMen for parking and such (and hotel rooms for in town games)....even during away games. At least for the next few months.

Thus I would say ,if you have to pick one or the other, Go for Sanctus. It will be easier on ye.

Well, I'm a bit biased, since Sanctus is the party hosted by KnoxGothic.com, but I'm going to have to say if you have to make a choice, choose Sanctus.

We've been throwing this party for over a year now, and it's always a great party. The new one has potential, but if you have to make a choice, Sanctus is the one you know will be a good time, you can always give the new party time to prove itself.

I didn't realize Black Ball might become a weekly event...in that case, I better support Sanctus instead! I wouldn't want to have to fight the Black Ball organizers over loyal goths. :)

Seriously, I may end up having to do family things that weekend. And I've already gotten a few people excited about Sanctus.

Hope to see you all this weekend. And thanks for the input.

A fresh, new Saturday night event sounds wonderful, but maybe someone affiliated with the private forum which may not be named and the Black Ball can explain to me why it is not a members only event because I'm a little confused. Correct me if I'm wrong, but let me see if I'm understanding this right. When it comes to spending money and providing warm bodies, everyone is welcome to attend and support the night and those that run the the private forum which may not be named forum, but when it comes to joining the forum that the money goes to support, everyone isn't welcome. That seems like it's expecting a little too much from people.

I thoroughly dislike drama on this scene, and I have no doubt that this post has the great potential to start it, but I need a rational explanation on this to make a judgment call on whether or not to attend.

The forum is invitation only. The forum isn't the goth night. The forum was asked for by many of the current members: they wanted an invitation only board. Others don't care either way, but are still members. It's a forum, not a new nation. We haven't seceded. Please don't send Sherman to burn our board up.

The goth night just sort of fell in our laps. You don't have to be a member of the forum to attend the club night. If people have a problem with the the private forum which may not be named forum, they probably won't come. I can't change their minds about that. I'm doing the promotions and am one of the people who run the site. Of course it's going to have our site's name on it.

This is not a conspiracy....it's a club night....really, I swear. Go out and have fun...somewhere...if it's our night, cool, if not, we won't send our people after you.

I'm sure that this hasn't sufficiently answered your questions, Jen, but I'm just....so....tired....

I am just looking at it as another club night.

X went out on his own and started a kisk ass 80's night for us (and he deserves a great deal of thanks for the great job). I think of the Black Ball pretty much the same way. It doesn't matter which web-site's name is on it. It's still a club night where we should go, drink, dance, and have fun.

That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it......

I am not on the private forum which may not be named. I just want us all to have a good time, together.

I will probably attend despite the drama. I refuse to allow the petty conflicts of whomever to dictate my actions.

(Which, upon reflection, is quite the oxymoronic statement.)

Nobody cares but me....and I don't care.

Besides.......IT'S NEW!!!

Unless it sucks....and in that case I will just bomb the city with asteroids from orbit. So as not to damage my manicure.
