To quote myself in this same thread:
I never said that I was the author, In fact, I plainly said it was the original Tao, as stated above. If I quote the Bible I don't have to say king james or who ever translated that particular version. I am only posting the Tao for my own personal need for coversation and so that others will have something to read other than the normal nonsense that I post. and now for today's Tao (By Lao-Tzu):
The Tao is infinite, eternal.
Why is it eternal?
It was never born;
thus it can never die.
Why is it infinite?
It has no desires for itself;
thus it is present for all beings.
The Master stays behind;
that is why she is ahead.
She is detached from all things;
that is why she is one with them.
Because she has let go of herself,
she is perfectly fulfilled.
In Short, Leave shit alone.

It's not so much about legality as respect for literature and artwork. That, and not being fake and pretending someone else's words are yours (I'm not saying this is the case but some people do such things).
I's 'bout respect yo.
I completely agree.
Sure, I'll try to be nicer, if you try to be smarter.

You plainly said it was not your work in your second post to the thread. In your first post of the thread...you said nothing of the sort...and people thought it was your work as you can tell by the responses.
If you did quote the bible, you would probably put the book, chapter and verse number so people would know it was the bible. When I first read the thread...there was one or two posts. One being the "tao" and others following that seemed to think you had written it.
It's no big deal. I'm just saying for everyone and the newbies...putting your source is the respectful thing to do.

I didn't think that he had written it, I just liked it and told him that.
And, personally, I think it's kinda petty to argue about where it all came from. But thanks anyways.

I didn't say that you did think he had written it. However, ibbie suggested that it be put in the storytellers forum which is for peoples poetry and writing...so...I sort of assumed that some people might assume it was his. I was just trying to clarify that it was not, and that we should all cite sources...maybe it's five years of college making me anal...I don't know, but I had the best intentions.
If you think it's petty, thats good, you are entitled to your opinion, AS AM I. If I was a writer, and someone posted my words without crediting me, I'd be pissed.
All I'm saying is, cite your sources, why everyone else continues to argue it is beyond me.

Yeah, I guess I would be pissed if I didn't get credited for my stuff, too.
Anyways...ahhh, I forget.

As for the pissing off of any who my be pissed, I have fixed ALL of said complaints and will leave it at that. And now for another Tao:
The supreme good is like water,
which nourishes all things without trying to.
It is content with the low places that people disdain.
Thus it is like the Tao.
In dwelling, live close to the ground.
In thinking, keep to the simple.
In conflict, be fair and generous.
In governing, don't try to control.
In work, do what you enjoy.
In family life, be completely present.
When you are content to be simply yourself
and don't compare or compete,
everybody will respect you.
In short, I drop this argument for the sake of this thread. And I will even supply even more information so that any who care to explore may do so.

Fill your bowl to the brim
and it will spill.
Keep sharpening your knife
and it will blunt.
Chase after money and security
and your heart will never unclench.
Care about people's approval
and you will be their prisoner.
Do your work, then step back.
The only path to serenity.
In short, don't over do it, but do something damnit!

Can you coax your mind from its wandering
and keep to the original oneness?
Can you let your body become
supple as a newborn child's?
Can you cleanse your inner vision
until you see nothing but the light?
Can you love people and lead them
without imposing your will?
Can you deal with the most vital matters
by letting events take their course?
Can you step back from you own mind
and thus understand all things?
Giving birth and nourishing,
having without possessing,
acting with no expectations,
leading and not trying to control:
this is the supreme virtue.
I still hve yet to understand how to do this, but damnit, I'm trying.

Yes, I have wished you were dead. You are just another face in the crowd, someone who brings me suffering, someone I truely hate.

Thanks! It is nice to know that so many enjoy the wisdom of the Tao and thank you for being a guide in my quest for self growth.

Wait untill I am done with the Tao and maybe we can come up with a karma/anti-masturbation thread.
And now for today's Tao:
We join spokes together in a wheel,
but it is the center hole
that makes the wagon move.
We shape clay into a pot,
but it is the emptiness inside
that holds whatever we want.
We hammer wood for a house,
but it is the inner space
that makes it livable.
We work with being,
but non-being is what we use.

i think mercury made it pretty clear in the very first post, for those who bothered to read it, that these are not his own words. there is a BIG difference in citing quotes on a paper for academic/college credit, and posting them on goth chitchat board for fun. i don't think mercury is the one that needs to chill.

No, honey, he did not or I wouldn't have said anything. He did the right thing and went back and EDITED it to credit the author. You can see that he edited it 6 days after the original post at the bottom of the post:
Last edited by Mercurygriffin on Wed Nov 12, 2003 3:10 pm; edited 1 time in total
And no, not citing his sources is not some great karmic wrongdoing...I was just trying to nudge all you newbs into doing the right thing. I'm sure old Lao-Tzu would agree with me and I know many others do.
And the situation has resolved itself..Merc went and edited the post and all is well in KG Tao land. Why do you insist on perpetuating the drama honey??? Everything is "chill" except for people that stick their nose in situations that have been resolved well by adults.
And I do believe that if I was out of line in asking that he site his sources, I would have received a message or call from one of the guys (which I always do when I get a little mean)...because, for some reason they trust my judgement enough in most cases to put the word MODERATOR under my name. If I have been out of line in anyway, I think someone other than you would have told me by now.
Thanks Merc for editing your first post.

Ok, time to settle this (again?). I forgot to credit Lao-Tzu which is not mandatory but usefull if someone wishes to research more. I then went back and edited the posts so that this could be easily done. Ease is the only reason why I edited, not because of credit. As stated in the Tao, it seeks no praise. The Tao was the last words of Lao-Tzu before he vanished and he never wanted credit for anything because he taught that emptyness is the way to happiness. With that all clear Here is the Tao of the day:
Colors blind the eye.
Sounds deafen the ear.
Flavors numb the taste.
Thoughts weaken the mind.
Desires wither the heart.
The Master observes the world
but trusts his inner vision.
He allows things to come and go.
His heart is open as the sky.
Colors blind the eye.
Sounds deafen the ear.
Flavors numb the taste.
Thoughts weaken the mind.
Desires wither the heart.
The Master observes the world
but trusts his inner vision.
He allows things to come and go.
His heart is open as the sky.

she wasnt perpetuating drama....she didnt understand the edit of the post...she didnt know she could edit a post.....or the post had been edited.......she thought you were just attacking him outright for no reason when (by the time she read the thread) It looked like he had claimed his sources.......that is all

Success is as dangerous as failure.
Hope is as hollow as fear.
What does it mean that success is a dangerous as failure?
Whether you go up the ladder or down it,
you position is shaky.
When you stand with your two feet on the ground,
you will always keep your balance.
What does it mean that hope is as hollow as fear?
Hope and fear are both phantoms
that arise from thinking of the self.
When we don't see the self as self,
what do we have to fear?
See the world as your self.
Have faith in the way things are.
Love the world as your self;
then you can care for all things.
