ive always thought of a convicted monopolist like a drug dealer
the money isnt in the sale, its in the comeback
they could develop products that dont crash
but why would you spend the extra cash to upgrade?
from a business model, its a damn good idea. build a flawed product becuase it creates more revenue when you want it fixed, employees more people, blah blah blah.
i hate it when our government does this but i stand it when a convicted monopolist does it because they open jobs i can take and do.
china has now declared an open source inititive. india is close.
mac isnt the future, but its always going to be a contender.
truth is: there is no future. for sake of argument we will lump all unix-based systems under the word linux.
now heres your tree
a convicted monopolist is the reason computing is where it is. sure it coulda been someone else, if i could tell the computing world one thing it would be to stop bitching over pointless details. they won.
but they did from the perpsective of a drug dealer. the money is in the upgrades, the patches, the new verisons.... ect.
they know DAMN good and well what they are doing, they arent making accidents. if you havent discovered this by now... your naive. thevve all but admitted it. from a buisness angle you can invest in a bank (for sake of argument lets say 5% intrest) or say... a convicted monopolist... now when you invest you can get a lets say 10% turnover in MS.where do you invest? now follow this model on a ten or even twenty year buisness model. they got too fucking big too fucking fast. people are only investing in alternative platforms because the turnover by percentage is higher and more stable than it was in MS say 5 years ago. this is a reason MS is moving towards releasing uber-stable products with less upgrades and putting them on a yearly liscence agreement (read the MS newsletter sometime if your gonna complain... being a licsenced developer or knowing one helps of your gonna bash MS.. then you get GOOD ammo).. people didnt start pumping money (at least in our country )outta spite to MS they did it for turnover. they still make more money than a bank and they have tons of perks over it... and now because basic economics is setting it, ms is declining. no shock. your purchase doesnt take outta MS's net worth. investors do. period. the PC didnt anticpate alot of shit as an entire market... say intel all the way to MS because MS made TONS OF MISTAKES in addition to their tons of successes.
Mac picked the best time to make their big commerical comeback they could have. its paid. the gains they made pumped enough R&D to really really make them a fucking force to be watched. but they are not without their flaws too. alot of buisnesses wont go mac because they are afraid to switch format (server concerns ect..) and no matter what the IT dept says the owners are afraid to pump money (source: newsweek about a year ago. i still have the article)... but they will go linux. then they sometimes end up in mac terroitory.
but mac is on the rise.
linux systems arent going away either. because they are the banner flag of open source and thats (as bad as this kills me to say) is the future's direction but not the future.... (obvious lead in)
theres gonna be OS's like cars in the next ten years... and languages are switching to assimilating data structure standards into their libs so it will run cross platform.
a new era of computing is on the rise slowly... too many other countries dont like mac either. i got friends on campus from all over the globe and theres not a one that comes from a "mac friendly" country. they all preach unix-based systems and talk about windows like the sacred money cow.
just some things to think about.
we arent all gonna be using macs in a decade. sorry
windoze isnt going away. sorry
open source isnt going to run the world either. sorry
all three will have a place
be glad too. it will make for a more competitive job market, the next development boom in the industry, and better software and hardware... hopefully more jobs too.
i see more data intragration jobs opening in the next decade too.
we are all gonna have to learn to stop being racist to platform, they all have their strong and weak suits. lets start calling a duck a duck.
