I have a theory here, hold me out. The real key to Matrix Reloaded is which of the Wachowskis brothers directed which half of the movie. If you find the one that directed the second half then keep him on the project leaving the other one to write academic essays.
I could see a defenite shift in film quality after the Merovingian dinner conversation. The first half is in bad need of editing. The most obvious example is the dissertions into the nature of choice and destiny. The concepts behind choice were repeated over and over every few mintues creating the most basic of Storytelling Sins. The "Please pay attetnion to this it's important" sin. With excession it creates the unwanted effect bludgening the audience with a point. The Zion scenes were bad and I was going to give them the Bludgey award but then Merovingian showed up.
The Merovilngian character has to have the worst dialogue in the film. He meanders on constantly about cause and effect. So this is whate accounts for a major villian in this movie, a complete pretensious over accented bore. Oh and he likes to place either exlax or a sex stimiluant in cakes.
In contrast there's the Architiect who appears near the end of the flim. The Architect has the most well written lines, a rather easy honor considering the atrocious dialogue. He's to the point, he speak in a manner of intellect, and he presents the audience with new information in a consisant manner. He rules.
Even the action sequnces are different between the two halves of the movie. The "Land of a Hundred Smiths" should have been a three mintue fight. Invincible superhero type characters kill fight scenes and unfortuantley Neo is one invincible mother fucker.
The freeway scene is different. Trinity and Morpheus are not invincible. Their vulnerability creates a suspense to their action seuqunces not present in the Smith Fight. It also has the benefit of having more varied styles of action.
Other points...
Thank godless for Laurence Fishburne. Morpheus was the only character I was totally into from start to finish. He's the only person capable of giving out a speech and making it work. It's a charisma thing.
The orgy scene was ok but a bit too long. Afew the first few minutes it stops becoming an affirmation on life. Instead it mutates into a peep show mentality.
The special effect really need to be cut back a bit. I was really starting to hate the freeze and turn camrea effect. It's like those video games you play where youdo a cool mood and the game goes trhough slow mo. It's cool at first but after a period of time it's kills the momenteum. The only freeze and turn fram I liked was where Neo rescues Trinity and Morpheus from the burning truck as it gave detail.
Most of you know me as the guy that hates love interests in stories. I feel that most love moments are handed to us and we never get a real feel to why two different people fall for each other. I would like to commend the relatiopship between Neo and Trinity as being one of the best romatnic interest connection in recent memory.
Can we get into Neo's head a little bit more? While he's inviclbe in the physical sense it's apparant he's not so invincible in the intellecutal sense. He still isn't sure of himself or his place in things. The new revelation about him being one of many should be a good springboard for the next movie.
I agree with the Ain't it cool guy. There should have been a more vampiresand werewolves in the movie. The Twins were the best new villian i the moive and it's because they are not physically like the other villians. They have a supernatural smell to them. More magic less kung fu.
It was better then I thought it would be but not as good as it should have been.

ROFL!!!! Actually I liked this character, a bit of comedy relief for such a serious movie... "Okay so you've got some skill"

You mean Morpheus and the "Key Maker"... Im not sure where Trinity was in this scene, but the agents had given up on her.

I felt like Trinity was to "matcho" to have as loving of a relationship as she did with Neo. I also think that someone like Angelina Jolie could have played the part with more compassion.

Agreed, whole heartedly.
Oh, and the the fight scene just before he met with the Oracle was just pointless.
