Actually, I rather enjoyed the Process. Candle was a fantastic song. One man's bologna is another man's steak.
Skinny Puppy was a sum of its parts - all of them. They were great because the right musicians found one another and were able to build on one another's interests, skills, and inspirations. I don't see how it could be all about any 1 contributer. Still, lose a cog and the machine is bound to wind down.
I did not find much to like about the new one. At all. They need to stop before someone gets hurt.
As for NIN, the only release that I really had any respect for with regards to Trent as a producer, musician, and sound sculptor was Downward Spiral. That was a very tight, very well conceived album as a whole. Nothing else he has done since has struck me as an improvement, an innovation, nor anything more than building on what was already established. I'd welcome a new direction for him, but I am not really interested in more of the same. Just an opinion of course.

Oh yeah...Candle,.......and Cult (despite a lot of people slamming it for some reason I can't understand), Jahya, Amnesia, Hardset Head, the whole album was great. And yeah it seems Skinny Puppy is missing a lot without Dwayne, just as it would if Dwayne was still here but Cevin was gone or Ogre was gone. I like the new album for the most part, but I have to admit that the chorus of Use Less sounds awfully nu-metal-ly. I actually think I enjoy Ohgr more than the new album *sigh* I love Walk and I love Key, but I don't think their indiv. styles are very well suited to blend together. Just my opinion of course.
P.S.: Has anyone else heard the rumor that Puppy may be touring with NIN this year, or know if this is true?

I would agree that Goettel was one of the greatest keyboardists of the industrial genre, and was a very integral part of band's sound for more than a decade. His sampling and synth work helped define the band during that time. Kevin Ogilvie, Dave Ogilvie, and Cevin Key were the founding members of the band, along with Bill Leeb on keys. Goettel came in after Bites.
After more than a decade they were all on smack, and it became increasingly difficult for them to continue working together. This, combined with creative differences resulted in Goettel's disappearance with the master tapes for the "The Process". Then he was found dead of a heroin overdose in his parents' house in 1995. Then Ohgr and Key went their separate ways, but continued to so great solo works. Overall I feel that Ohgr's vocal style is what makes Skinny Puppy.
What is it that I don't get?

I truly disagree. The combined talents of Ohgr and Key create a new distinct sound, and they are still Skinny Puppy without Goettel. I'm thrilled they are back together making music, and the fact I got to see them play live last year was amazing. I totally support them in what they are doing and look forward to the future of the band.

meh, iz ok.

Well, isn't it funny how everything turns out. A thread about the new NIN album turns into a thread about the new Skinny Puppy album.
The irony. heh.

no they aren't
they are ohgr and key trying to make a buck
the ohgr solo shit is horrible
the cevin key music for cats was ok
the best thing they can do at this point is hang skinny puppy up
ohgr needs to go save some squirls
and cevin needs to make another good download record
The Greater Wrong of the Right" is far from being a ne-metal album.
it's closer to being a nu-metal record than it is an industrial one

I'm wondering what some people's definition of nu-metal is.
It's obviously different from mine.

maybe some rx stuff
but the rest is not for me
and he carried that vocal syle onto the new sp record too
which really puts it in the shitter for me
not to mention no goettel
no layers
nothing interesting musicaly
that rediculous video
stick a fork in em
and i just re read this have to mention bring it up
I found the new album to be a very versatile progression of their sound and I would have to classify it as one of their best works.
you can not honestly sit here and tell me that this album is more "versatile" it's a more watered down process
and if your trying to tell me that this one of the best works
then you really don't like skinny puppy at all
i mean i fuckin love skinny puppy
that record is not skinny puppy
VX Gas Attack
that's skinny puppy
punk in park zoo
monster radio man
the list goes on
i really just can't believe your trying to sell me this as some important work they've done

In response to paintedbird, the following was posted on
http://www.echoingthesound.net in the Nine Inch Nails forum:
"There’s been a rumor online that was apparently coming from your lighting designer on a Livejournal community that said that there is a chance that Skinny Puppy would be involved with either a Nine Inch Nails or Tool tour in 2005. Is there any truth to that?"
Ogre: Not as of yet, no. The Nine Inch Nails thing, I think, arose from the fact that I had a nice evening out with Mark and William Morrison, and Trent came along, and my girlfriend came along, and Mark’s wife came along. We went and saw Air at the Hollywood Bowl with a full orchestra. We had a night out. It was the first time I’d seen Trent in years, and we had a very enjoyable night. I really think he’s a really great guy, and I never really spent time at this point in my life talking with him, so we had a nice evening, but totally left it at that. The Tool thing has always been kind of on the backburner with regards to us touring with Tool. We’ve never been ready before, in the sense that we were in kind of a period of reformation. There’s a chance for it this year, but we’ll have to wait to see on that. We’d love to do some dates with them. We’ve talked about it for a couple of years, and if it happens this year, and we’re in the right state to do it, we’ll gladly do it.
From the second page of the interview.

From
here:
Nu metal (or aggro metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal music. It typically combines aggressive, hip hop influenced, angst-ridden vocals, samples, rap-style beats and drum set patterns, and/or DJ techniques

Ya can't tell me what I like and what I don't like. Like I said, I have been a long time fan of SP. I have ALL their albums, singles, B-sides, videos, etc. I love their older melodic , abrasive vocals, flowing synths with horror movie samples thrown in. Fucking lots.
You can hate the new album, that's all you.
I totally dig it.
I agree, the video for pro-test was ridiculous, though Ohgr and Key had nothing to do with it. SPV just slapped that together to promote the album. As for the song, however, it's pretty impressive to hear Ohgr rant that fast live.
I separate what they have done from before and after "The Process", however I do like the new stuff as much as their old. A phucking lot of SP fans feel the same. I'm just glad Ohgr and Key are collaborating again.
That's all.

since when is spv bigger than skinny puppy
your damn right i would have told spv to shove that video if was either one those guys
and no i don't care for the song
or ohgrs "ranting" (aka faux hip hop attempts)
bring back the stream of consciousness ohgr any day now please

Finally, we've received official confirmation of who will really be filling the guitarist spot in the live NIN lineup: Aaron North, formerly of The Icarus Line. That's right, nobody from Guns 'N Roses will be performing with Nine Inch Nails this time around. You heard it here first!

Actually, it was their guitarist Bill's idea, and they knew about it and were behind the idea before the video was shot.

the LIVE lineup, click access for this
is
alessandro cortini - k
jerome dillion - d
arron north - g
jeordie white - b
trent.
two of these guys, the guitar and keys had nothing do to with the albums recording as they were both JUST HIRED.
in an interview a few months ago on access, he named atticus ross as the his helper for crafting much of the album,
he also named the an assisstant producer
the man who holds the record for most bastardized guitar parts in a studio than any other... : drumroll: rick rubin was involved in the guitar PRODUCING for a while (thank god they sent rick back home...).
plus theres pics of danny lohner, jerodie, trent, jerome(drummer), atticus ross together in the studio on the goddamn website over the last year. ross was in 12 rounds and helped uncredited with synth programming for trents last albums (the fragile and Still, which trent regards still as an album) and trent has admitted him to a large role helping the earlier phases of this album (also in nin access).... but will again probably go uncredited because he tends just to help program the sounds and doesnt play or do any programming loops for nin (theres a fucking difference people). hes the brainchild behind last years Error debut, one of my favorite albums of last year and tied for first with my favorite EP, the Jesu heartbreak EP. okok i slipped a shamelss plug for jesu in.
atticus, Leo, danny, jerome, jeordie are the ONLY NAMED MUSICIANS THAT HAD SHIT TO DO WITH WITH TEETH. NOONE ELSE HAS BEEN NAMED. oh yea and that nad rubin.
other than rubin, theres been noone touch that album i can complain about and the fact that ANYONE WHO KNOWS SHIT ABOUT THE DAMN BAND KNOWS THE LIVE BAND HAS NEXT TO NO SAY IN HIS ALBUMS............
well trent and jerome have made little statements in interviews in the last two years saying that trent actually let other musicians play for once EVEN IN THOSE INTERVIEWS they never hinted these people joined the band EXCEPT jeordie.
pics of jeordie in the studio are on the site, as trent as admitted to alot of jerome playing live drums
the guitar slot people are whining about doesnt matter, they didnt play on the fucking album.
its my understanding that jeordie is the live replacement for danny anyway.
as of now there is NO confirmed lineup for nin, just the people who worked in the studio, and some (im sure not all) were mentioned above.
