So screw 11th street

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Yeah, I don't think it matters what political party a corporation supports really...they prolly just want to appeal more to their target audience...

A friend of mine said to me, "democrats are just republicans with better haircuts" but I like what one of my professors said the other day, quoting another professor, "I'd rather be a pedophile than I fucking republican"!!

My husband grew up with Adam's brother and respects both immensely. We will not be going there again.

I've met Adams little brother, same one?

He is quite a character. I asked Adam if they had just had twisted parents and both turned out odd or his little bro got his eccentricities from him and he said, "he learned it from me, but he took it to a whole new level"...lol.

There's no revelance at all. Half the regulars are gay.
Hell, half of the employees are gay. The other half are pagan or somesuch, but not Christian.

It's just more Drahma started by the usual. I mean Kit doesn't even go there (and loves stirring) and Morgan only goes to chat up Adam so their motivations are highly suspect to me.
Mid-winter boredom, maybe.

JaNell, I really didn't want to get into it with you again. I hold no grudges from the past, but have decided to keep a safe distance for reasons I'm reminded of now.

No, I never go to the coffee shop to get a chai between classes or do some studying or socialize....Someone who works there happens to have become my friend, that doesn't mean thats my sole motivation for going so please don't make such stupid assumptions. I mean, that is really a stupid thing to say. I could say something stupid like, "well, JaNell only goes there to sit on their porch and I only ever see her drinking coffee and not eating the "accessories" so blah blah blah, " which would be true from my point of view but an entirely moronic thing to say, I don't pretend to know your motivations for anything, so don't pretend to know mine.

Me giving my reasons for boycotting 11th street to a board I"m a member of is not a ridiculous notion, its no sillier than your "not one damn dime day" or whatever, its something I felt strongly about so I thought I'd share. I read your points about other points of view on the matter and thats true.

Why you felt the need to get personal and attempt to insult me or my motivations or any others because we disagree is the only "drahma" I see.

No one expects you to stop sucking on the 11th street teat...I don't care if no one else decides to stop going, I just want other "irregulars" to be aware.

I hate to argue with you, but Kit goes there at least as often as I do, does that mean that my many nights there with Gwynn don't count as going either?

Having gone to Das CoffeeHaus on or off for over 10+ years, I'm sorta sad to see it go. Mostly, because of the historical value the buildings hold. And when I first moved to K~Vile, It was where I went to down a few coffees and then meet up with everyone and head over to the Merc. Aside from the Merc. the 11th St. is where I meet most of you guys.

It does suck to see Adam get fired. People get fired all the time though. If he feels that he was unjustly terminated from his place of employeement, he could get unimployment benefits. Just an idea.
And Adam has a great personality, he could land a job anywhere he wants too.

As far as Loretta and Lynn go...Yea, I've had my differences with them in the past. Mostly being banned because of association. I.E...Reagan, and Christy. Nothing I did personally to them. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But, they always where supernice to me, and have had religious talks to me without being super-duper Bible-thumpy on me. Mostly, curiosity.

And I always hated the fact that she always called me "guy".After those years you would think that she would remember my name. But, the last time Candace and I was there...oh, shite, MONTHS ago...with Jaden(our Son). She was all "hey Josh!, How is the Clan ?" Total shock! I even mentioned it to her...she thought it was funny. SHe claimed that she knew my name...just always called me GUY.

Yea, she has been flighty and hypocritical at times...But, who hasn't? She is a Mother and a BuissnessWoman. Mo power to her.

I'll miss it. Even though I haven't been there in a long time.

So, Yeah. my first post here in about a year.

My two cents. Can I have the change back?

Damn it...I posted a good response and the internet gods ate it. So, here goes...

Since I generally keep my mouth shut, I am going to take my liberty and open it for once. I respect everyone on here and their opinions so please respect mine.

I hate that Adam was let go...he made the best cocoa ever and I will miss him being there. However I will not stop going to 11th Street. That place has been a safe haven for me to get away to when needed. I feel secure there even when I am going through my antisocial phases (which has been more and more frequently lately) and if we lose it, it's going to be rough.

I, like most everyone else here, do not know the whole story on why Adam was let go. I do know that I have had many friends who have been let go from many companies in the Blount/Knox area. I still go to those places, as do the people the was fired from the place, generally. If I stopped going somewhere because a friend was fired, I'd have nothing left to do but stay home.

The last few months have been getting harder and harder for 11th and since that robbery, things have only gotten worse. Hours of operation are very limited right now. This results in schedule cuts and also in the number of people a place can generally employ. I don't know what the employees make, and I'm sure it's not an awful lot, but if the hours are going to be so limited, that money might be needed elsewhere, like buying chai. This part is just an assumption *and yes, I know what they about assuming* but it makes sense to me.

I may not like the fact that Adam will not be there anymore but I will still be there....every Friday that I can.

*steps off soapbox and puts in back in the closet so it can get dusty again*

I think that people are missing Buttercup's point. I can't believe that this is coming out of my mouth, but anyways...

She isn't bitching about Adam getting fired. If he were fired for wrong doing, or laid off properly there would be no issue. The problem was the manner in which he was fired, espicially after he had worked there for so long...longer than people who got to keep their jobs. That was the MAIN point of her post. Religion came into it, because that isn't exaclty a "christian" thing to do.

I can't believe how off topic this thread has became.

A businessman who tried to buy 11th from Loretta once told me that she pays some ridiculously cheap rent for the place, like 150-200 a month. From a business point of view, if thats true I have no pity whatsoever for her. That could be total bullshit, but if not, I don't see why she's been having such a hard time keeping up the standards lately...never any chai, never any soy, no freakin' ice! It seems to me her heart hasn't been in it for a while so although it was a home away from home for a long time I think its time to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.

I could care less if you all go there, you are free to do as you please, I just wanted to let people know what was going on and why you will find me elsewhere.

Today I went to the Time Warp Tea room, which is not new, they told me it had been there for 2 years! It was really quaint even though I don't dig motorcycles. Its very unpretentious and the chai was good and they have pool tables and galaga!! The sandwich was good but not nearly as good as the chicken salad at 11th street.

I know people get fired everyday, blah blah blah, but you guys are so apathetic to somethings and I think if it was your friend you might be a little less selfish. How you ever expect to make a difference in anything by laying down and let people get away with such shit is beyond me.

Then there is no issue, as it was not suddenly with nothing said about problems - the opposite, actually. I guess Loretta just got tired of addressing the same things over and over...

That's all I'm going to say about that since I really like Adam and think he's an intelligent, sweet, and funny guy who's one of the best artists in town. I hope he gets a job that pays better and, more importantly, one that he enjoys doing.

In any case, people lose jobs all the time so it seems ridiculous to be making a drama of it. It wasn't like he was fired for being black or not putting out or something actually worth getting in a lather about.

I do go there, maybe not regularly but I do go.
And as far as "stirring", I don't think you know me well enough to say that, but that's your oppinion and you're entitled to it.

Also, I never said I would stop going to 11th, I just said that I'll be looking for new places to go. And I will be sad to see if go when/if it does.

However, and this is just my oppinion, I saw how the owner has treated me and other people and I can see where she might have fired Adam like that. Maybe she did, maybe she didn't.
But I will miss him.

And I don't believe stating my oppinion is starting drama.
