HR 181

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Have you told your mother this?

What does that have to do with mental health screenings?

It's simple. Stupid people breed, and pop out more stupid people.

When there are more stupid people in the country than smart people, the chances for incredibly idiotic politicians being elected *cough* GWB *cough* rise exponentially. And of course, the more stupid politicians we have in office, the greater the chances of stupid laws being passed, and later enforced.

This is one of the major drawbacks of living in a technologically advanced society - at least, compared to back in the day, when if you were stupid, there was a good chance that you would be eaten by a large, carnivorous animal.

Don't get me wrong; I'm as much for advanced science and technology as anyone else, but there are always caveats.

I *know* that you're not a lazy ass if homeschooling didn't work for you; I homeschooled Sean through most of 7th & 8th grade. It's HARD.
Isn't it annoying how it always seems to be someone without kids (and often still getting money from mommy & daddy) or else someone with an infant (supported by hubby) who gets all dreamy-eyed about homeschooling and judgemental if you don't?!

As for the meds - both my kids have ADHD/ODD. When I lived in Chattanooga, I was forced to put Sean on ritalin to keep him in school. He started nodding out and drooling.
Bullshit.
I took him off and learned everything I could about diet and behavioral management.

Ro's school is pressuring us to put him on something for it, but both the counselor and psychiatrist he saw last year for it said not to. There's growing evidence that ADD meds given to children can permanently exascerbate the severity of bipolar disorder, among other problems. Since elementary school kids are often misdiagnosed as ADD when they're bipolar, or vice versa, giving meds is really take a big risk on their future mental health.

It's much harder treating ADD and such with diet, changes in routine, and behavioral management, but damned if I'm gonna take a chance like that just to make life easier for myself or the teachers.

I have a cousin who has kidney and liver problems thanks to the wonders of Ritalin.

I don't get the mentality of people who think that just because someone has a "disorder" that they have to be drugged to the teeth and made to be "acceptable" - they're trying for "tolerable" but don't want to admit it - to the rest of society. It's a bunch of horseshit. I've had plenty of friends with ADHD/ADD/ODD etc etc who managed just fine without meds. They might be a bit impulsive at times, but not to any degree that's kept them from growing up to be able to take care of themselves. Certainly not any more impulsive than a great deal of "normal" people.

Bleh.

Well on the fact that bipolar kids get misdiagnosed as add, when I was in elementary school they kept trying to cram ritalin down my throat saying that I had add and was a problem child....I came to college and couldnt focus, so I went to the psychiatrist here and was diagnosed as bipolar.... so all those years I was taking the wrong medication (note it also made me even more annoying), when if they had'nt jumped on the adderall bandwagon I couldve had a proper diagnosis...... imagine if this bill gets through... I mean all those little kids doped up on adderall.....icky, now I definitely dont want kids.
if the native americans can do a "rain dance" to get rain when they need it, then why cant i do a "penis dance" to get sex when I need it?

I'd much rather train a child to control their ADHD than have them depend on a drug to do it!.
A few people offered me money to keep Sean's prescription going AFTER I took him off ritalin - because it's speed. I could have sold that shit on the streets - and our anti-drug government wants to force us to put our kids on it.
