Indeed.
And I reckon he was an alright Pope, better than some so-called Christians I could name. But they really ought to rethink their "Pope until death" policy. The poor man was a sad cartoon these past years and should have been retired long ago.

the Pope actually thought about resighning several times, but his love for the people and for the Church changed his mind. he was a good man and hopefully the next Pope will be as kind and compassionate. not all priests, cardinals, bishops are corrupt.
*please remember that some of us are Catholic. i would never some here and say terrible things about your religion. this is why i hardly come here anymore.

Well, for the record, I am not Catholic. I do disagree with a lot of Catholic teachings, including their positions on birth control, priests marrying, and of course the sex abuse scandals. That being said ... the Pope made a lot of much-needed amends on part of the Catholic church towards those throughout history who suffered because of the Catholic church. It only took 'em 2000 years to do it tho ...
And I am also offended by things like this:
http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=3195806
A Baptist church in Newport, TN has put up a message on its marquee sign stating "No truth, no hope, for following a hell-bound pope".
I think it is deadly wrong to pass judgement on someone else's belief system. It smacks of arrogance when someone out there proudly boasts "My God can beat up your god."
I don't believe that God really makes judgements about where we go in our afterlife based on whether we worshipped Jesus in the right way, or what we believe in spiritually. I think, if there is any factor which figures in, it has to be our conduct towards others on this planet we live on. That includes respect for other's beliefs. I rather think that the person at that church who put up this inflammatory message should open up his copy of the Bible and have a read of Matthew 7:1 ... very true, by my reckoning.
