Considering that we seem to be on a streak of them and all. It is their main responsibility to take care of our own. not others problems.

Well, that would work if we were still and isolationist country... but remember, the American people were also screaming for this war- even though they didn't understand its implications. The majority (of citizens) saw this war as some sort of retribution for 911- many people STILL think that. We have to deal with the world- we cannot simply focus all of our efforts on our own people. We are almost completely dependent upon the outside world for the maintenance of our economy. This is a very generalized response, and I see your point, but I think you are oversimplifying the problem.

And Bush asked Congress today for 10 billion dollars to aid in the disaster effort. He has to ask. Blaming Bush seems a bit trite... his control is limited.

Katrina fucked everything up. And not to be too offensive, but I'm about tired of hearing people piss and moan about their gas prices, while families in NOLA and Mississippi can't even find water.
The gas shortage will be remedied, you will all have enough gas money to get to Sanctus, and families will be rebuilding their entire lives from scratch. I'm not bitching about gas prices... I actually feel spoiled right now.

well fucking said.
very well fucking said
ive been telling people similiar shit all fucking day.

I'm only going to say this and I can't speak for anyone else but if I don't bitch and complain and focus on the small things, I'll go crazy thinking about the big things. It's a coping mechanism for me. A way for me to try to get my mind OFF of everything going on around me. Otherwise, I sit and cry thinking about the little children stuck there. I don't deal well with things like this so I prefer to not deal with it at all. Selfish? Sure, maybe.. but I'm FAR from selfish person and anyone who knows me can tell you that.
But I'd much rather complain about something trivial than end up crying in the fetal position because of feeling so damn helpless.

The one thing I'd like to toss my 2 cents in for is this. A few refineries down South are out of commission, what about the ones in oh say... California, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Alaska, etc etc ad infinitum ad nauseum. and let's not forget we have a 2 month surplus before we're even supposed to have a shortage.

Ok, well speaking for the poor and unemployed..... we need a gas stamp card like the food stamps.
I am supposed to get to training on Tues. but my car has the gas light on, I can't wait till the price goes down. I have less than $100 and nothing towards rent or KUB yet. So, I have no problem being selfish. For all I know I did lose loved relatives. So, yes, I have a place to live and food now, but in a week or two, it could be gone, and there is no federal aid for the sick, uninsured and unemployed poor. ( Don't even say "unemployment" I'm still waiting for it, And indigent care/metal care is two+ weeks behind).
I also agree with Libby that focusing on personal crises keeps us sensitive types from going completely bonkers. So which would you prefer: Sensitive and non-functional, or Selfish/bitchy and making an effort ?
That being said, I'm the one who started the Katrina assist post, and I am the one considering adopting a homelss goth from NOLA.
So I'm gonna go ahead and bitch.

i am not talking about being an isolationist country. i am simply saying that we should be able to respond to events on our own land faster than we can respond to events on the other side of the planet.

but remember, the American people were also screaming for this war- even though they didn't understand its implications. The majority (of citizens) saw this war as some sort of retribution for 911- many people STILL think that.

yes, and these people are naive. but i am not discussing the justification of war right now. i am talking about the ability of our country to take care of itself.

We have to deal with the world- we cannot simply focus all of our efforts on our own people. We are almost completely dependent upon the outside world for the maintenance of our economy. This is a very generalized response, and I see your point, but I think you are oversimplifying the problem.

there is no reason that we can not do both. bush threw everything at iraq and did not leave enough resources here.

And Bush asked Congress today for 10 billion dollars to aid in the disaster effort. He has to ask. Blaming Bush seems a bit trite... his control is limited.

that is probably the first decent thing he has done as president. and normally asking for money for a catastrophe like this is not a big deal but his dumb war has put us significantly further in debt than ever before.

as usual the man in the middle, i gotta quote this out.

it seems like the difference of opinion here is smaller than it seems because your both saying alot of shit that me and the people i converse with are saying.
just subtle differences to me really
then the argument grew and i resolve in the middle.
i encourage this debate like all hell, i bet you fucking cash on dollar some people who claim to be informed will learn some shit outta this one. :-x :-x :-x :-x
:swing batta swing:
for once im not saying shit. :-x :-x :-x :-x

Prices seem to have peaked.

Wholesale gas was done something like 26 cents a gallon thursday so expect to see the savings trickle down to us consumers.

That I know of there are 2 cases in TN; one in Chattanooga $5 something a gallon and one in McMinnville $7.00 a gallon ($3.50 on the sign and then another sign on the pump saying the fee was doubled that some didn't see).

Seems the guy in McMinnville wasn't gouging.

He has the old style rotary dial pumps and they only go to $2.99 as a max price. He had $3.50 on the big sign and $1.75 X 2 on the pumps (cause thats also $3.50) and someone thought he ment $3.50 x 2 so they complained.
