They want to create an issue that will:
A. Get the right wing "sheeple" up out of thier pews and into the voting booth, and
B. Deflect attention from the mess that real issues are in.
They figure no one will stand up to defend dildos, and if they do, they can just vilify them as "perverts" and whip up the conservatives even more.
The gay marriage issue was used just like this on a national level in the last election. I'm guessing that here in TN, it's the Tenncare issue that has them looking for a way to get the church people out to vote down the "perversion.".
As Jay said.....we are doing things like Temple: What Is Fetish? to call attention to things like this, raise awareness, and hopefully get people involved in turning some of this around. There are plenty of local examples, like the anti fetish laws and the recent laws passed to shut down adult businesses.
Well said. That was my guess too... that they needed something to distract from the TennCare crisis. Someone must've thought a nice shiney dildo would make them forget about not having their meds for a few minutes.

I guess a TennCare bad-aid issue would make sense. It seems odd ot me that the Tennessee Legislature would consider a abortion ban bill (SJR127), a ban on selling violent video games to minors(HB4053 and SB3981), and a ban on selling or presenting dildos(HB3798) all in the same time frame. It's like some sort of Reublican/Fundie wet dream. you know those stereotypes of Conservatives we used to have...Prudes who wanted to ruin everyone else's good time for the sake of their own morality? Well damn it if the Tennessee Legislature isn't giving us this stereotype on a silver platter. Smaller government my ass.
Ok that was supposed to be the end of my half rant. But for the love of Tap dancing Pan what is going on? Abortions, ok there is a ton of controversey around the subject and while I do not agree with the ban abortion sentiment I can at least conceive how they come to that thinking. Violdent video games....sillier but still within the realm of comprehnsion. There are a lot of well meaning people who believe that violent video games encourages violence in real life. Ok silly but I can still see the logic working. but dildos? What the hell is a dildo going to do to anyone?
I propose that we send the senators that proposed this bill a visit to a psychytrist to see why they are so freaked out by dildos. consider it a public service.

amen. those bills are a perfect example of why i
haven't retired that old notion of thinking that conservatives are Evilâ„¢, fundies are lunatics, and republicans are just plain silly.
(mix and match to your taste. and yes, judas, you are silly.
lol)

Next thing you know they'll be banning porn because the girls are "displaying dildos", so to speak.
Oh, and as for healthcare, I'm sure someone is justifying this ban on the grounds that some dildos get lodged in various places and have to be surgically removed, therefore increasing healthcare costs. (I'm not kidding. I've been in surgery for 5.5 years and trust me, I've heard the stories.)

what about pocket pussies? and let's not forget cock rings.... let's not stop there. i think oral sex should be outlawed. and doggy style! HEY, wait a minute- humans are the only animals on earth that do it missionary style- that's not nach-uh-rul! let's outlaw that, too! Oh, no! What about procreation- that involves sex! We can't have that! Test tube babies for all- lets have a drink on that!

If they ban dildos, incidents of people having barbie dolls and curling irons lost up their asses would increase dramatically. So it's probably in their best interest to keep items designed specifically for internal use legal.

Gotta love the bible belt....this is why our adult bookstores are 24-7. If they weren't, they'd be burned to the ground.

My senator looked like an old fart in his bio, though, so I can only guess what he thinks about some crazy chick writing about why not to ban dildos!

It could very feasibly happen. Look at our obscenity laws. Those were voted on and no one heard about it until after the fact!
VIVA LA DILDO!!!!!!!!!
I don't know about you guys but I'm stocking up now!

WHAT THE FUCK?! I don't even care for/use dildos, but that just pisses me off! Someone mentioned it awhile back, I thought it was a fucking joke! You KNOW that shit originated from some dumbfuck bastard that can't get his wife to orgasm, so she replaced his cock with a dildo... So he tries to ruin it for everybody else just because he's so lousy in bed n discouraged about it... stupid shit...
