I have heard tales about some broiler room place..what was that all about? It sounds interesting..though i doubt it was really as interesting as i imagine it to be..unless people really did run out screaming with thier flesh half steamed off..

Gawd, I was living in the fort on Grand Ave in 1990 and was 24 years old. I used to walk across the world's fair site to work as a clerical at Whittle communications... I miss living down there. And yes, I remember Rumors - I went there on my 21st birthday....

That's funny! It was The Boiler Room.
Basically the basement of the old Underground building.

heehee...Yeah I was right around that age too. But I can say that I still miss The Mercury on occasion. I was old enough to get to go there before it closed down.

I was 10 in 1990 but my mom was 30 and went to Planet Earth and was an immortal chorus fan. They occasionally went to Mercury, but when I went there a few times I wasn't very impressed...but I don't find shitholes very impressive...but I guess I occasionally miss Lava though it was a total shithole too.
I'm not sure why I find threads like this so annoying. I guess I don't believe there was ever any "golden age of clubbing" it was just youth and before peoples partying turned into serious habits...

Not in control of the time of my conception, I was also 12 in 1990. It's just fun to remember good times. And also fun to make new memories. I personally plan on being at the club dancing with my cane in about 30 years!

Thanks Elf I had successfully removed the memory of the wrestler until you mentioned it again - OH MY GOD! He was strange.
To Jeff G I remember Dax and the Crew. I Dated Billy Bruce for awhile remember him????? If you are who I think you are ..... You use to come party with my roommate Kim over at our apartment.
I hate to admit it but for once buttercup is right. I don't believe in the "Golden Age of Clubing" but I have to admit we had some really good times. Didn't We Elf???? I miss Vatican Pizza I get a craving for that every now and then.

I'll come out of my self-exile momentarily to say, "Yeah I was there."
Of course, back then people always talked about the good ol' days of China King and Vatican Pizza.
Dax used to always call me "Bat Dude" due to some silly shit I did over at Brian and Scot's place one night.
Jeff... what's your last name?
Re: Immortal Chorus:
My best friend from high school designed their logo, all their fliers and I think their CD covers, too. I never cared much for them and always thought Steve was kind of silly. But they'd occasionally play with a Nash band called Jet Black Factory. I fucking *loved* them. I remember one night the two of them played with another Nash band called Anastasia Screamed. My friend Beth was all about them. It was a really, really weird night. if any three bands should have never played together it was the three of them. That was the night that I realize that Knoxville music fans were fucking wack.
Brian: I remember several conversations with you on Wynn's roof over on 5th. Of course, at the time, you were a multicolored praying mantis sucking on a hookah... but I remember they were good talks
I also remember wondering how on Earth nobody ever jumped off that damn roof yelling, "I AM THE LIZARD KIIIIIII..."
I have heard tales about some broiler room place
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Three people I wish Iknew how to get ahold of from back then are Amy Degrella, Cynthia Boucher/Pue, and Jen Jen.
...And Brian... one word about BBs and I'm comin' after you
And now that I've proven exactly how old I am, I'm going back into exile.

China King. God. Fights, underage drinking, punk shows....drugs. The roof.... good talks! Thanks for the nice descrip. of me back then.... praying mantis, etc......thanks!
BB's and cops ans Swifty and GWAR in 1989 @ Planet Earth. Shit. Hiding on the roof of that house with a bunch of drugs while the cops searched the place.......shit. Amy D? Always thought she was sexy as hell.... remember Andrea Martin? Sexy! I still run into Sara, Jeff, Brent and those guys here and there. Remember Howard(goes by Cody now)? His cousin Tara called me today. Shit. The late 80's..... sounds really stupid but we were kinda cutting edge back then.....ESPECIALLY for this place. Sleeping in coffins, wearing makup, tripping on LSD, having seances in abandoned loony bins, taking X, dancing to The Sisters Of Mercy, Drinking Blood...... shit.... did I say that? Well, at least it was back in the day....and I didnt drink the blood.....I just donated it !
