No.

And can I ask (I'm not trying to be snarky, I just want to know), why are you on this board if you don't know what goth music is?

a vast number of fans? no. they have a small but dedicated following.
vast fans? no.
but different strokes for different folks.
bare in mind lots of people stick fingers in their ass when they masturbate. some people wont use condoms. some people mix everclear with jack daniels (guilty).
but just because you can have an opinion or a taste DOES NOT make it a good idea.

True, but most of us can come to a broad consensus of what it encompasses, and what artists could/could not be classified in the genre.

*actually, let me edit that to add that I don't think "goth" music even exists any more. Most music made after the mid-80's and classified as "goth" can more realistically be classified as "whiny crap."

Since when are you allowed to play music based on your own tastes at Temple? I thought that was only allowed in the beginning. From what I heard last weekend, I don't think I will be talked into making the mistake of wasting my Saturday there again.

Bauhaus, Siouxsie and other "post-punk" from the early 80's = gothic rock.

Cruxshadows and Clan of Xymox is under the umbrella of darkwave neo/pseudo goth darkwave/staple hand to forehead music.

And yes, everybody has their own taste in music.
There is really not anyone in this town besides myself and Rue (that we know of) who are into aggrotech/terror ebm like Combichrist, Hocico, Psyclon Nine and the like, and nobody dances to that at clubs in Knoxville either. That is probably because they have never been exposed to it.
I go out to clubs to drink, socialize and hear new music, not necessarily to dance. But if I dig the music being played, yeah, I'll probably end up dance to it at some point.

Not to step on toes or piss anyone off, but I have be honest.
It's really disappointing that the music played at the one club in Knoxvile anymore seems to be progressively going down-hill and appealing to none other than the clueless masses of the 94.3 crowd. That's one reason we don’t go out as much as we used to.
At this point, and as much as I loath them, I would welcome hearing a new Cruxshadows song played at an 'alternative dance night' Instead of the top-40's pop-rock shit that is overplayed on the radio as it is. If I wanted that I might as well go to the Red Iguana.

do the band(s) provide samples online? if so, gimme links, damn it. i'm lazy tonight.

for that matter, there've been a lot of fucked up bands/songs that i've liked, many of whom i'd never even thought of plugging into a google search. in that regard, i have to say i really miss caustic's spinning, regardless of the toes he's stepped on. dude has an ear, and a fucking spider-sense for the "unknown soldiers" of good music.

Not to step on toes or piss anyone off, but I have be honest.

if you were anything else, i would disrespect you.

Andrew Eldritch says no, so I say no.

Since the early 90s, Eldritch has publicly rejected associations with the Goth subculture. He describes The Sisters of Mercy as humanist, modernist, and implies he wants nothing to do with Goth, stating "it's disappointing that so many people have in all seriousness adopted just one of our many one-week-of-stupid-clothes benders". He also notes that, "I'm constantly confronted by representatives of popular culture who are far more g*** than we, yet I have only to wear black socks to be stigmatised as the demon overlord"

Dead Can Dance...most certainly NOT goth. I don't think you can classify them, but if I had to try I'd put them under the very general term "world" music.

World music is defined as:
music where influences from more that one cultural tradition intermingle, first made popular in the 1980s

and

World music is a term that covers all music that is not part of mainstream popular music or classical music and has some kind of "ethnic" component. The connotation of the term is popular and folk music from the third world, European popular and folk music that uses influences from the third world, and traditional music especially but not only from the third world. ...
