If you want good cheap goth compilations check out Disc Exchange. They file them under the Electronica stuff. Look toward the end and You'll find them.

I've gotten some good cleopatra nad Project stuff from them.

I'm a big fan of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, particularly the albums The Good Son, Henry's Dream, and Let Love In. Live Seeds and the Best of are good overview albums of his work.

Other old goth stuff i would recommend are the Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, X-Mal Deutschland, Specimen, Dead Can Dance, Danielle Dax, and the Virgin Prunes. I enjoy the lyrical, melodic Peter Murphy solo stuff more than the sort of minimalist Bauhaus stuff, though both are worth checking out and making your own judgement. Also Love and Rockets and Gene Loves Jezebel. I love the Damned, and as an aside to those who enjoy rockabilly/gothabilly, Dave Vanian's more recent project, Dave Vanian and the Phantom Chords, is awesome IMO.

Not sure where to draw the line at 'newer' goth, since i think of stuff made in the early 90s as 'newer' personally, even though i guess by now it's techincally something like 'midrange' or something. If you like the male vocals and rock-influenced stuff i'd recommend the Merry Thoughts and the Cruxshadows, and i always lumped locals Immortal Chorus into that category though they might not have appreciated it, and if you like female vocals i'd say check out the Cranes, Collide, and Rasputina (cellos!).

If you like Dance, Metal, and Pink Floydish music then check out Lake of Tears. This band started 1993 in Sweden. Great Gothic music. Here is a link.

This is the link.

I'll have to second Moonspell, and Amorphis. And, agree that the best from Moonspell is the Butterfly Effect, and, the best Amorphis stuff is Am Universum, and what they have written since.

I would also like to add The 69 Eyes as a good band to check out. And, I could *NEVER* forget Mortiis.

lemme correct this:
ONLY wedensday went to the murderdolls. and he caused the damn band to break up...
if your interested in where the others are:
Graveyard Boulevard(ex Frankenstein Drag Queens minus Wednesday 13) is where the rest of the band that still wants involved with horrorcore-inspired shit went... and wedensday took songs the FRQ had wrote to the murderdolls...
http://www.thegraveyardboulevard.com/
thats the current FDQ minus wed.
i like all three bands though, so fuck it. HEHE!
oh yea, and anyone that reads the word horrorcore and thinks of rap, icp, or ect doesnt know shit about shit for music and needs to slit their wrist...........

Well, actually Wednesday WAS FDQ. And, he didn't actually cause the band to break up. (Considering the band was pretty much him) The last line up of FDQ did not consist of ANY of the members of Graveyard Boulevard.

Ikky and Mr. Scabs, who were both in the last line up, were/are? in a band called October also. It, who was the last bassist (the one that replaced seaweed whenever he fucked off and fucked over his BEST friend Wednesday, and where'd that get em?) was in another band, from what I understand, was in another band, I believe a black metal band.

All of the songs that were put out by FDQ were owned by Wednesday. He wrote lyrics, and music.

I really hope that Sicko and Seaweed aren't trying to cash in on the FDQ name again. That would be quite embarrassing. Almost as embarrassing as Sicko trying to sell his beat up boots on ebay. Claiming "they were worn by a former member of FDQ". How lame. Does he know how many people are laughing about that??

graveyard Blvd is using the FDQ claim to fame...
yea they are trying to cash in on the name again, no they arent the only one cashin in either..
one of ikky/scabs is still in october but i dont remember which one but i met those guys on a few occasions and i dont think i would EVER brag about being in october.. they SUCK...
and it was always my understanding that wednesday wrote lyrics and the basic music and the band made it actually work due to his lack of talent writing... thats always what ive been told... but whatever. not really concerned.
:-D
side note: did sicko really try to hock his fucking boots on ebay?????  glad i read that during my first cup of coffee today. hhahaha. thats fucking sad.

I hope I didn't come off as rude in my previous response! I'm just very passionate about music.

I just hate to see people using others accomplishments to get ahead. Wednesday put all his effort into making FDQ work. I respect him for that. And, while most think his writing style is a bit cheesy, I like it :P His songs are fun, and catchy.

And, I didn't particularly like October either. Just weren't my cup of tea. Although, I admire Ikkys' (jason, i think his name is) guitar work. He's one hell of an entertainer.

And, yeah, Sicko did try to sell his boots. Noone bought the fuckers, and now they are BACK up on ebay. I can't believe he relisted them.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 3349079905

OH, I see. They didn't sell at his starting bid of 250.00 last time, so he marked them down to 125.00. Geez. What a fucking idiot.

naa you didnt come of as rude. i do alot myself and never mean too, usually over the same thing... lol.
and thats the best ebay link ive seen in months.... sickly funny...
and Wed's cheesy writing is the reason i like him... the songs that ended up on the murderdolls album seemed to show more mental instability outta him... i think thats why i liked the album... it always looks like im giving em shit when i talk about em but no... its catchy shit to the point that it is over the top and i love watching people react to it when they hear it the first time. oh well.
