I have to start this reply by saying that, when someone types a question and then includes a fuckload of question marks, I have a hard time taking the aforementioned question seriously.
However, I will, in this case, make a valiant attempt.
How did I feel on 9/11/2001? Happy, and disappointed. Happy, because an old friend of mine got married that day. Disappointed, because I got to see how much estrogen has leaked into the American psyche. Simply put, people became whiney, fucking bastards. I, for one, was mildly surprised that it'd taken so long, what with American society being so godfuckingdamned relaxed about such unimportant things as safety, caution, and the fact that just because we're statistically the most obese humans on the face of the earth, doesn't mean we're invulnerable to big, heavy, explosive-filled airplanes landing on our heads.
It's not like Tom Clancy hadn't already written a fictional story about such a thing happening. (I think it might have been titled Debt of Honor - I can't recall at the moment)
Anyone who was surprised by those events had never really let their imaginations run wild, and thought, "Holy fuck, it's possible someone could do that!" So yeah, I thought that people were being dumbasses when they were so shocked and appalled at the events that day. Hey, Hiroshima, it was not. At least it wasn't a nuke. In a way, though, I had to feel sorry for the shocked onlookers, because they obviously had spent a great deal of time hiding under the covers, and didn't have enough raw pessimism - what I often refer to as realism - in their diets.
C'mon, people. Take two big buildings, that had bomb attempts on them previously, and an army of angry militant middle-eastern psychos. Throw them together, and you have every stupid fuck in the country sticking an american flag on their vehicle.
I don't say all of this to belittle the victims of the attack. I say this to belittle those who take offense to seeing things as they actually are. I say this to belittle those who allowed it to happen. And, I say this because those same people are currently running this so-called democracy.
OK Ibbie...None of that was directly an attack towards you...& I'm glad to see that you headed the same direction I was....
No way you can look at it will show that the attack of September 11th WASN'T mass-murder...& thus, my point...
If that's what it takes to get people to get their heads out of their asses...Realize that we are not invincible...Not important...Not .45 resistant...Than so be it...Humanity, & Amerika as a whole, have spent millions of dollors...researched for millions of hours...tested unimaginable ways, to create our current blanket of security...& we all hide beneath...Sometimes you have to look at the sun...Even if it hurts your eyes...By unrelentingly illusioning ourselves, we put the guns to our own heads...By feeling invincible to everything, we become vulnerable to everything!
This is the same point with natural disasters...Until we have lived through one...We don't realize the threat they are...I have yet to see a tornado rip through this area since I moved here, 6 years ago...But I have seen, & heard the warnings & watches for them several times ...Does that mean that one couldn't kill me, or destroy everything I own...NO!...What it means is that, when one does come to fuck up my little world...I'll never see it coming...I must also note that, while I don't fear the wrath of nature...I do respect it...Also, I understand the eventuality of it...I don't think that 'It will never happen to me'....
Sadly, when Amerika realized that we are vulnerable to attacks on our own soil...Most people overcompensated...To the extent of bomb-shelters & chemical suits...Loaded up on ammunition...& sat on their front porches, smoking cigars, & saying 'come up here mother-fuckers'...This did nothing...But at least their heads are 25% out of their asses...They can hear the world around them...Even if they can't see what their doing....
