Correct me if I'm wrong, but let me see if I'm understanding this right. When it comes to spending money and providing warm bodies, everyone is welcome to attend and support the night and those that run the the private forum which may not be named forum, but when it comes to joining the forum that the money goes to support, everyone isn't welcome. That seems like it's expecting a little too much from people.
I thoroughly dislike drama on this scene, and I have no doubt that this post has the great potential to start it, but I need a rational explanation on this to make a judgment call on whether or not to attend.
OK. I really like you, and would love to welcome you on the private forum which may not be named, so here's a rational explanation from one warm body who has spent his money at quite a few KG-organized events, and whose "welcome" on KG.com has included quite a bit of unnecessary censorship by "moderators" and Admins. A lot of us KG members do not like the rules here in this playground. We've heard many times that we must deal with it, or make our own playground, with its own rules. We did just that, and invited a bunch of our friends, so that we could all talk about projects, events, and generally shoot the shit without being constantly bothered by flaming trolls or moderators wagging the finger of admonishment. Initially, some were upset that they were not on the first round of invitees, but that soon died down as they realized they have friends on the private forum which may not be named, who will eventually invite them in, using the nomination system provided. After all, if you have friends on the private forum which may not be named, it is only natural they will want you to be able to share in the troll-free environment. If you don't have any friends on the private forum which may not be named, why would you want in? So all was cool, until we decided to host an event of our own making. No, it's not an event exclusively for the private forum which may not be named members. That would be ridiculous. Are we 45 warm-bodied the private forum which may not be named members to be excluded from Sanctus? I would hope not. Though we all enjoy Sanctus, it is only once a month, and on a Sunday then, which is a big sacrifice when you have to work at 6am Monday morning. Also, though I hate to put it this way, it starts to take on a sameness of aspect after a while. A lot of us have wanted for some time, something better than wading through the norms at the various 80's nights around K-town, on the weekends when there was no Sanctus. So we at the private forum which may not be named decided that we should do something about that, too. We found an excellent venue, thanks to a long-time good friend of mine, that we knew would be well-received of the Knoxville gothic crowd. We arranged to have our event there, which we have been told we can make a regular event if it proves popular enough. We hired the DJ's. We are doing the decorations. We are doing the promotions. Yes, we are collecting the cover at the door, just like KG does at Sanctus. So do we want everyone to come and pay the cover and drink to support the event? Yes, we do. We hope it will be a big success, not only because we have put a whole lot of work into it, but because we love to do gothic-themed stuff in our spare time. I don't want to go gothic swing dancing when there is no Sanctus. I want better. People doing what we are doing is what makes a scene thrive. All the rest of you have to do is show up and enjoy it, as we have all done at many Sancti. And if you still don't feel good about it, Jennifer, I will comp you at the door, as your friend.
