Vampire Goddess, no offense, but Blackalicious?
There are precious few hip hop acts out there worth their chops, but they are one of them. You must be getting overplayed radio torture from one of their songs, but I didn't think they were that big. Ah well, that is why I avoid radio like the plague. In all other aspects I agree with you completely...Especially the part about dance steps. Line dancers must die.
Other executions:
I think just a random culling of all the pop genres - It would keep people edgier and more on their toes.

the funny thing is.... is that i don't listen to radio. i haven't now for two years. my friend has downloaded a couple of songs on the computer and those are the ones i have heard.
perhaps i shouldn't judge a band just by hearing 4 songs by them, but then again everyone has there own opinion... *raises glass* here's to you my friend.

Sadly even if you are desperate enough to listen to the radio for new music, you still only hear one mabey two songs by the artist. This is sad. I can remember a day when multiple songs off of an album got broadcast time. It seems that in the 80's the super single concept was really solidified into a marketing technique and many albums were sold on a single song alone. Opposite to this is say the album Synchronicity by the Police which had three mabey four songs on the radio and videos on early MTV (not MoneyTV which you know today.) Obligatory asbestos clause: If you don't like The Police fine. I was simply trying to illustrate a point.
If you are looking to actually hear an artist before judging them you have to either pirate the popular crap or turn to the indy artists. I heartily recommend the following for research:
http://www.magnatune.com
http://www.iuma.com
http://www.mp3.com
http://www.shoutcast.com
http://www.allmusic.com
These should lead you to many independant artists websites and material.
Good Luck
(now you know why I don't post often....)

i suppose that is why i got so tired of listening to the radio. it is a certain amount of popular songs played over and over again every hour. that is also how mtv is today.. and if they aren't doin that then they are doing reality tv shows.
it is sad when a musician gets on mtv one time and gets shitloads of money and fame, but it is worse when you have musicians that sound ten times better than the crap on the tv yet they live in a basement somewhere. .. it is where you make the common judgement on a real musician and a "advertised musician". give me the stinky musician anyday.
