Hey, I agree about the Shawn Colvin - and - HERESY! - an awful damn lot of Blue Grass and Mountain Music is Goth as fuck.

Nick Cave (Murder Ballads) and I would agree. That high lonesome twang can err on the spooky side at times

ya know, i have been debating on if i could play "knoxville girl" as a night opener when i spin at temple again, i think the answer is a resounding yes, or possibly nick and kylie doing "wild rose"

I have to agree about 'hillbillies'. Check out Ralph Stanley singing "O' Death" on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. Some of these old guys sound like they could raise the dead!

And, yes, I do listen to just about anything, from classical to jazz to Korn and Nine Inch Nails. There is usually something worth listening to in just about any "genre".

yo jay, i love the" knoxville girl" idea...i played the lemonheads version for a set closer at fairbanks once, which version are you thinking of using? i love that home-grown flavor...one of the creepiest tunes i know is "her love rubbed off on me" by carl perkins. the cramps redid it, and altho i LOVE the cramps, the original is still spookier

Lets see now that I have everyones attention, now you can ALL see we have our own opinions about what is what.

AND THAT'S THE WAY IT SHOULD BE, END OF STORY!!!

what is considered Gothic music is different to everyone.

But it certainly isn't hip hop, country or Rap.

but hey sure Johnny Cash, I'll go with that, and I'm sure I would stretch the rules any where else.

And in my original question I never said anything about starting another Goth night, because the community itself is weak, non-supportive , argumentative and down right touchy about any event thrown.

SO IN essence it be like that old saying of "I wouldn't want to be in a club that would accept and have me as a member."

Heres the thing, constructive critism is good negative shit, "Eats my ass."

I never wanted to say Temple wasn't cool, I just said it wasn't completely goth by my standards,

and that's it, my opinion,

After any of you go to the BATCAVE in Manhattan, the Slimelight in London and Manray in Cambridge, Mass, believe you me your idea of what a gothic event should be and it would drastically change your view when you roll into Knoxville, not that Knoxville couldn't do better, Hell on the big curve Knoxville has had a scene longer then half of the east coast, and Atleast there is a scene here.

If someone put together an event friday and or saturday night, once a month that was strictly Gothic I'd be there.

If someone does please call the night "HELL" because that's where I want to say I'm going.

I realize that the comments that you made before were your opinion. However, please realize where we are coming from. We are NOT Manhattan, Cambridge, Boston, NOLA, London, LA, etc......Knoxville is a wanna-be-city in the buckle of the bible belt. This area would NOT support a TOTAL goth night......one like you are referring to. We do the best we can here. Thus, whether we are right to do so or not, we can't help but be offended when someone from a 'big city' comes along and offers their opinion....an opinion that we perceive as criticism to our scene.

You & Beth seemed really cool when I met you and I had a wonderful time socializing with you guys at Temple. I do admit that I took great offence to your comments though. As I said....not trying to be redundant.....please understand that we are in the buckle of the bible belt and a total 'goth' night....rather what you guys would classify as a total goth night..... would not last very long around here.

I like our totally un-goth nights. I think they kick ass. I have been to the big clubs and I think they suck. I get sick of hearing dark gothic type music and every once in a while I wanna hear some ass-shakin stuff. I suppose I could do that in my room, but what's the fun in that?
Aleister didn't you own a strictly goth (or whatever it is you wanna call it) club before? Maybe you should open up another one. I mean, it sounds like you have a passion for it. And apparently you think everyone sucks at it around here. Not trying to be a bitch or anything, just stating my opinion like everyone else. But you probably would be good at it. Even tho I don't even know what all goth is. Is there like a book or something I can study? Like a GED is basic goth. Goth 101? Or is it like something I should have been born with? I'm just wondering.
But let me know if you ever do open up a new place, I would like to come see it.

You just totally contradicted yourself.
Is that goth? Should I start doing that so I'm goth, too?

Seriously, I want to know what I can do to be more goth, since I suck at it so bad...

Apparently you must:

Not like a variety of music.
Not go to clubs that play a variety of music.
Close your mind a bit more.
Whine alot.

I apologize in advance if this post offends anyone, but I am all about diversity. Call me crazy for thinking this, since I am a Yankee. But open mindedness is what will make the world go round a tad bit easier.

Thank you and have a nice day.
