Good Omens

So I'm just out buying a few used books, its about all I can afford anymore with me being a poor bastard now, when I spy a copy of A Day For Damnation by David Gerrold and I grab it. Don't even open it up.

That was about 6 hours ago. I just sat down on the throne to answer nature's call and I decided to read a chapter (Yes, I keep books next to my toilet. What else are you going to do while going to the bathroom besides read?). So I open it up to the front page and spy in some scrawled handwriting, "Best Wishes - David Gerrold". I looked around for an old copy of Starlog, a magazine which he wrote a column for, and it turns out to look like authentic signature. Nothing I could make money off of if I sold it, but its cool to me.

I'm taking it as a good omen that I'm living right and somebody upstairs, or more likely downstairs, is just letting me know. Damn, I love surprises like this.

I have an autographed hardback of Neuromancer by William Gibson. It was given to me by a person who has an uncanny knack at finding signed books.

The only one I've ever found was a signed copy of Hofstadter's Metamagical Themas. I was really surprised when i opened it up and saw it there. Unfortunately, I lost this book when my old car in Cali got towed.

You know, that's probably the most pleasant surprise you can have whilst sitting on the toilet...

Really? I swear I've seen this book on your bookshelf. On the right-hand bookshelf, bottom shelf. Check. (I know, I know, but "Really?" really fits here in context!)

when i worked at books a million i found a signed copy of barry giffard's "night people" for $1.

barry wrote the wild life of sailor and lula, which became wild at heart, and cowrote lost highway with david lynch. some of the lines in lost highway come straight out of night people.
