Nope, most of us are confident enough in our dark and spookiness to accept cheaply made dark and spooky goods marketed towards "spooky kids" and mansonites. Three of us on the board work there. Lip Service clothes, rock T's, and Demonia Shoes are just as cool if you get them at HT.

And you can't beat a 40% discount with a stick ;).

I think anyone that feels that intimidated by Hot Topic needs to grow the hell up and remind themselves they weren't the first person to ever wear black and listen to bauhaus.

our mall rentacops love us...in fact we have one that buys us food regularly. and all the other mall employees seem to like us...cept the Abercrombie bitches across the hall. hehe...the main problem we have is the mall rats are all about our store...

I just enter through the fire exit next to the store. That way I don't have to see any of the annoying people at the mall......

I have no problem with renta-cops though, maybe because I look mostly normal (except the hair, that's just kind of long and stuff).

The mall rats set our store on fire... twice! The renta-cops have it out for anyone wearing spikes. And we are across the hall from Hollister who constantly blares their crappy music so we have to turn ours up. Then they call the renta cops and turn theirs down so we look bad. Evil preppie bastards.

I don't think they hate HT, They dislike the kids who act like little brats around and in the store.

aha....yet we do have crosses...on accessories....I was told our policy was basically no alternative religions...ie no pentacles, pentagrams etc. to quote " nothing satanic or drug-related" yet we have pants with stash pockets...go figure...

I e-mailed HT from their website a few dayz ago & they told me that they were discontinuing all religious merchandise n their stores... I dunno 4 sure, but that'z what they say!

ahhhh ok...cause that was something I ranted about at work frequently..I kept going...we can't have wiccan stuff so why can we sell crosses? that's very selective...and not fair..../rant......

We prolly sell crosses because they are such common symbols. I don't even associate it with christianity anymore myself, its just a symbol, and pretty common among the dark and spooky. I guess its the acception to the rule, because I've never seen any other religious symbols and were told we don't sell 'em. I think it might have to do with wanting to keep us "parent friendly" to a certain extent, because our target audience is teenagers.

Yeah, our cigarette cases are "id cases" and we did sell lighters. Also, we have stickers with "drugs are bad mmmkay?" on them. They seem to be a little lax in their rules.

And we have a shit ton of gay pride stuff, which to me seems like it'd be just as offensive to some parents as a pentacle. *shrug*

Who knows, I don't do the merchandising, but whoever does sure likes ICP...*cringe*

heeh....you noticed their affection for ICP too huh?? our ICP stuff just sits there collecting dust....and the $50 blankets??? what's up with that? They would sell if it were something other than ICP...but oh well...the buyers are on crack...or acid...or something...

The only reason I dislike hot topic, and I mean no offense here, is that most of the little kiddies who shop there think they are sooooooo original and sooooooo rebellious. They always insult abercrombie and other clothing shops, but hot topic is the exact same as abercrombie or hollister, just different style. And even though I can't understand why ANYONE would pay 30 bucks for a t shirt that says abercrombie on it, I must admit that hot topic's shit is not the cheapest either.

I suppose I am a little bit shallow when I condemn a store due to the type of fucks who shop there, and there are some people who aren't doing it all for fashion. . . and I have respect for those people. I would assume that those are the types on this board. But in an effort to be different, all the punks, goths, and anyone supportive of our scenes have just waltzed into corporate arms. The suits that run Hot Topic don't care about the music. They just stock their stores with clothes that they think will sell. The suits don't care about individuality. They just care about getting their monthly paycheck.

My hatred for hot topic has nothing to do with mainstream/underground shit, it has to do with the fact that the majority of people that I see shop at hot topic are hippocrites. But then again, aren't we all hippocrites? So I suppose I will continue to have a baseless hippocritical hatred for hot topic, just as hot topic will have a baseless hippocritical hatred for preppy stores, who in turn will have a baseless hippocritical hatred for anything that doesn't show up on MTV.
The moral? I fucking hate MTV and VH1.

i would love to buy a Hives record from hot topic... been wanting to buy their shit since i saw them on the Punk O Rama tv show back in cali... but unfortunately never got around to it... i don't drive, so i can't go to cali to get the clothes from my stores (they're not really mine, but i am a faithful dork customer there)... but yeah, i have to order online now, and unfortunately, i have discovered that the banks here in tennessee totally suck, and now i have all these mystery charges and all... and i can't order, so that means also no custom bondage corset that i wanted, and also just damn, i am having a fucked up month, and i have only been here for three, damn, this sucks... this really blows... no money, no new clothes, and no car for a let's drive so fucking fast to get there and back in three days weekend... shit, i hate banks... and what does this have to do with hot topic? the fact that i can't get my Hives record...
