I've found a few 39 Buick business coups, pretty good price. I think I'm gonna get one, but what to do?
Eninge, for sure. Chevy small block but what? i've got a 283 that needs a rebuild, and I'm getting a good running 305 really cheap. So it may go in till I can afford a more tricked out motor, but you all got any ideas?
Suspensions, more than likely. But what? I can get C4 Vette stuff pretty cheap from a friend of a friend. But pretty cheap there is not so cheap compare to coil over shocks and go.
Rear end, definately. Chevy 9 bolt with a limited slip, comes with the 305.
Interior?
Roof chop?
What do ya'll think.

hmmm... I'd say make the exterior look as close to factory as possible - I looked it up, those are pretty cars.
since you're not doing a full restoration, I'd say the interior is fair game - take it as high tech as you can go - LCD panels for all instruments, voice recognition, all out.

Engine: Buick needs a Buick mill. Normally, I'm all about V8's. Think about a supercharged 3800 V6. There are plenty of donor cars in the boneyards and this engine really makes the power. Get a GM TH700 4 speed automatic tranny, for the overdrive.
Suspension: If you are an expert welder, the C4 stuff would be ultra-cool.
Rear Axle: GM doesn't have a 9 bolt axle. You were probably thinking of the Ford 9 inch axle, which doesn't belong under GM steel. If you use the C4 stuff, you will have the Dana IRS. Otherwise, use the rear axle(GM 10 bolt, with positraction) from the above Buick donor car. Get the brakes, too.
Hell yeah, trick out the interior. Get some seats from a late model Cadillac.
Leave the roof alone. Headroom is cool.

Some of the chrome stays, 39 was the only year for the "Waterfall" chrome on the front, they run vertical strips of chrome they look SUPA cool.
10 bolt rear, not 9 bolt. And like you said a Ford 9 in don't belong under that car, as a Chevy don't belong in a Ford.
Long term I will put a nice Buick mill in it, maybe even a Norstar motor, but for now I've got Chevy SB's out the wazoo and they are easy to work on and relatively cheap to get parts for, and there are lots of parts and somre really trick shit for them. I don't know much about old Buick motors, I'll have to check those out.
Headroom is nice, my '67 Caddy Hears has almost 16 inches of headroom, but that cut down slit window look is SO COOL!!!
Interior will be super trick later, but for now I think its gonna get the Mexican blanket treatment.
Thanks for the input ya'll.
