A proposal..

Do to the influx of trolls and people with nothing better to do...I propose we go the way of NG and not allow NEW people to sign up with hotmail accounts. I use one because I have changed isps, but maybe it'd be a good way to stop this shit.

I know some of us that have been here a while don't get along, but we can occupy the same planet I believe. In fact even if we don't get along, I believe some of you are really good additions to the board and have valuable input. However these people that keep causing shit repeatedly are really getting annoying like gnats at a picnic.

I for the most part really enjoy KG. I like talking with my peeps, meeting nice new people, and updating each other on music, movies, food, books, art, crafts, etc.

I just would hate to see more people leave because of the few bad apples.

Well, perhaps you could get another email account on an ISP?

Basically by doing this, when you sign up you'd be saying "ok you have my ISP, and if I start shit, my ISP will punish me accordingly" however, now, there is nothing that prevents them from re registering over and over with a hotmail account or yahoo and getting into trouble.

But like I said, no *new* member with hotmail/yahoo accounts...you'd be fine.

I agree. I've had a lot of friends, most of them being posters that actually have good input, who have thought about leaving the board lately...and that is a damned shame.

This board used to be a lot of fun. It can be that way again...but not if everyone that has anything worthwhile to say leaves.

You're so pretty, BC.

Guys, we talked about this, and the short answer is no, we're not going to do it now.

We've already relaxed the rules on banning new accounts - new trolls don't get a warning, just a ban.

But the banning of free email accounts will likely do more harm than good.

This was talked about a while back, and my opinion is still that I feel that banning free email user accounts will punish people who don't have the money for an ISP and use a friend's computer, or the library's, or, as in the case of TheSym and myself, have one (shared) email addy through our ISP - so one of us uses a free email account for this board.

We'd lose good new people if we instituted that policy.
As for people leaving - no sympathy. That means the trolls win.

Prehaps a concentrated effort of ignoring bad behavior would be helpful. I know it's hard, especially when the gnats are pestering a particular person or persons. Several times lately I've been more than tempted to add my two cents on some of these posts, but my better judgement kicks in & tells me to just leave it alone.

Immature, unhappy people may try to start drama like so many small fires in our midst, put responding to them only fans the flames and makes their efforts at getting attention successful. We don't want them to be successful, so ignore inappropriate behavior.

Better yet, lead by example & show the fire starters how we can behave with civility & good grace. In a way, our beloved KG & it's members are being tested right now. This is a perfect opportunity to show others what a valuable community we are part of.

I haven't been fully briefed on all that has transpired, but alot of the trouble seems to stem from an inability to communicate effectively from some of these "newbies." Prehaps they originally meant no harm, & simply got swept up in something they didn't fully understand or appreciate. I'm a mom, so I want to forgive them & patiently explain what was wrong & why it was so. I want to tell them to try again once they understand a little better what is expected & what isn't tolerated.

We have so many wonderful people in our dark little corner, & don't want to see any of them depart company. Let's try to take a deep breath & practice as much tolerance as we can. Prehaps this way we can teach those who need to learn, a bit more tact & sensitivity. We aren't born knowing the right way to handle all situations... someone has to teach us, so that we may then turn around & teach it to someone else.

Mama Mo loves you all! Now let's play nicely, please? ;)

What will that do to fix overzealous moderation, anyway? :-x

I would like to see threads that get out of hand just locked instead of re-edited. That way, when it starts to get out of hand it's just stopped, and no one feels like their post are being deleated as a personal attack. And maybe that way, if they are locked often enough people will learn what is too much, how far is too far.

Does this make sense?

Would it even work?
