My opinions on the current brouhaha over our Black Ball

To Whom It May Concern:

There is a liklihood that this will get deleted. I am simply expressing my opinions.

I don't care if people choose Sanctus over the Black Ball. If they want to only go to one, pick one, either one. They are not the same weekend.

Yes, we may have this weekly, if all goes well for the first one. If not, big whoop. People are driving 3-5 hours for goth nights in other towns. Surely there will be enough people interested in hanging out on a Saturday to be able to support a weekly weekend night.

If people aren't interested because of politics, they will be missing out. Who doesn't want somewhere to go on a Saturday night? Really, there hasn't been anywhere in ages. If people want to be snotty and think, "Well, gee, they didn't ask permission of KnoxGothic first. That's gothic scene-insubordination! I say we boycott!" then they're obviously idiots.

If you own a restaurant and someone wants to open another restaurant, does that person have to come and ask you first? No, they don't. That's just silly.

If people don't want to support a weekly Saturday goth night, then, to me, that says a lot about the "scene" in Knoxville...that it's not strong enough to support a weekly weekend night. In that case, we have no business trying to provide one. So be it.

We will be opening our doors at 10pm on Saturday the 27th for a goth night. There will be four fucking awesome DJs: Caustic (we all know him, he's awesome, very knowledgable, and always has great new stuff), Chili (of Evil Twin, a great guy, and a great DJ with good taste in our gothic classics), KarlaBOO (first of all, she has great taste in music, second of all, she's very talented and sweet, third, she's a hottie...a bit of eye-candy is always nice) and X (founder of Skareoke and New Wave night at Ivy's).

I know quite a lot of people will be there. I am looking forward to hanging out with friends. It will be fun for me, and for others. If you want to poo-poo our event and not come, that's fine, someone else will. I guarantee you will hear, afterward, that you missed a fun night out.

Oh, and the venue is lovely, the drinks divine, and the food delectible. So, those are bonuses. I recommend the new potato and rosemary salad...oh, it's so good. Hey, look, I'm "Mr. Food!"

So, I'll be there, we'll have good music, good drinks, and good company. We hope you can make it.

I agree with you. I wish i was able to attend the event but I am going to be out-of-town on vacation. I feel that any kind of event in the goth scene, whether it is a local band playing out or another night or a coffee hour should be supported a 100 percent. We have enough problems in this god-forsaken state and nation with people outside the scene hassling and harassing us that we should stick together period. Again, regardless of who is running what board or what night or what club. I, for one, am very happy to attend any event and I know many of you are the same way. I am very thankful to have had the chance to enjoy the scene here and I will miss it when I move. So, support it and realize that the only real enemy and drama here is NOT having any events or nights.

Hear, hear. I personally don't see any problem, beyond scheduling and finances that would interfere between any goth night or chance to get out and hang with my 'family' and friends. Thats something I tend to tell a lot of people. You all brought me in, made me feel welcome in this gods forsaken state, put up with my inherent sillyness and I'd just like to thank you all. Not only for being there for me, but for each other. We're all in this together, let's keep it that way.

Even though I thought they were on the same weekend. I probably would have tried to go to both.

Now I am happy and overjoyed that they are not....since I will have a bigger budget for both. AND I don't have plans for the next weekend.

Since I am external to...and could care less about ....all this bored board crap.

I have yet to see what the big deal is all about.

Except of course, Some people banging their head on low lying conclusions and others expressing unfounded paranoia....

....or both...

And...if things keep going on like this...I am going to have too many places to go. I am going to have to start be selective....eventually.

Then people will PAY ME to come to their events! YAY!!!!

Perhaps I'll play some Front Line Assembly and you can guess if it's old or new.

(Hint: Ha ha! It all sounds the same!)

Although I've only glanced at the posts and I know little about what's going on...

...all I ask is why schedule the two events on the same weekend.

...and why post such a confrontation post? That won't attract people to one event or the other.

[EDIT: oops. I think this will be a weekly event? Let me just read more posts first...]

*Mmm, food*

I'm flabbergasted that anyone would have a problem with someone else doing a goth night. This new night sounds like fun. Fun fun fun!

Wait, that's not very Goff. :-x

I remember when people tried getting the Saturday gig going in Nashville...Tried for years at various clubs, but it never stuck. Why? Not enough crowd, not enought revenue for the venues when they could make just as much money with yet another "house" night. Just as I was moving, I think that some success was had on a weekly Saturday event, but that took some time.

If we can show ThinkTanq that this could be a real money making event for them on a Saturday - moreso than their typical Saturday, they would be foolish not to host it again...and again...and again...Next thing you know, we have a weekly party night. That is significant for "bob's" sake.

Why this is being looked at as competition for Sanctus is beyond me. Different night, different weekend. Sure, some people from out of state may only be able to make one or the other, but do we really get that many out of state people at our clubs? As far as principles go, I stand up to things that bother me too, but that does not include fu**ing myself out of an all too rare opportunity to enjoy good music outside of my apartment or car. Yeah?

Interestingly enough, I'm coming 350 miles or so and crossing two state lines to DJ next weekend.
