Change in venue for Black Ball

Dear All,

The venue for the Black Ball has changed. The ball will go on at the same time planned, but it will be at the Electric Ballroom.

The reason for this last minute move (we just found out ourselves a few hours ago and have been working to secure a location at the last minute) was an unforeseen problem with the room above ThInQ Tank. A visit from the fire marshal today illuminated a problem with the back fire exit. It seems that any outside emergency exit must have an awning over it, incase of snow. While it is quite ridiculous to expect snow in September, codes are nonetheless enforced in a way that makes it impossible for us to have our event there as planned. The ThInQ Tank folks did all humanly possible to help us secure another venue and we are grateful to them for all of their help. They will be implementing the required modifications on the building as quickly as possible, and as soon as the fire marshal okays the fire escape, we will be able to resume our plans for a weekly night. They wanted us to apologize to all of you for the inconvenience caused by this unfortunate turn of events.

Now, we are happy to say that the folks at the Electric Ballroom have graciously cancelled their regular Saturday night event in favor of our party. The owner was very enthusiastic about their recent remodeling and new sound system. This, from their website, boasts, “A 1,600 sq. ft. floor, 1,000 sq. ft. show stage, 1/2 million dollar light and state of the art sound system…” One of our DJ’s, Chili, is familiar with the venue and believes that it will work out quite well. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this venue, it is located at 1213 Western Ave. It is under the Western Ave bridge across from Bradens Furniture. Take Western Ave. to Dale Ave., and Dale Ave. to Blackstock. Their website at http://www.electricballroom.net/ (beware of their scary music!) provides a map and more information.

We would like to apologize to all of you for this last minute change in plans. We realize that this is going to inconvenience some of you. We will still be having the event as planned, with the only exception being change of venue. Doors will open at 10pm and we will be open until 3am. We will have DJ’s Caustic, Chili, KarlaBOO and X. It will prove to be a lot of fun for all in attendance.

Thank you for all of your support and we’ll see you all Saturday night!

Sincerely,
ReddErin & Seraph Antaine

Thank "bob" you posted this! I only have access to the web at work. I'd hate to have taken a cab up to Thinktank for the Electric Slide! Electric Ballroom eh? Cheesy as hell website, but I will be there ready to drink the bar dry!

Just a note on the bad side of things.......

Kickoff for the UT game is at 7:45. Parking WILL be a pain in the arse until the game is over (should be around 11 or 11:30).

Tony and Erin,
Is there a way you can have the EB reserve some parking spaces for the early birds. I know I'll be there at 10. Plus, you need parking for yourselves and the DJs.

I was wondering about that as well. Will they park all the way down at the Ballroom for the game? That's probably an obvious question, since they will park and walk from the other side of Henley St. Bridge.

Some cars park down under the bridge, but it never fills up. There should be plenty of parking around the side and at Bradens .

This then resolves my reservations about being in the old city during a football night...

Not that I would have missed it though, regardless of the venue. I am afraid that too many promises to be there to too many people compel my attendance.

I must admit though, that I would have indeed missed it, were it not for Vampilot calling me.

The game atarts at 7:45. Get there before the game lets out, like say 10:00. Everyone will be at the game or watching it at home. Therefore no traffic!!

Thanks!
