Turandot is this weekend!

Post by Mellifluosity »

Hello everybody! This is your friendly neighborhood opera singer, informing you that the Knoxville Opera production of Turandot will be going up this Friday night (8:00 PM) and Sunday afternoon (2:30 PM) at the Civic Auditorium. It's in Italian with English supertitles.

This is really a great show...the music is gorgeous (and includes "Nessun dorma," probably the most famous tenor aria in the world), and the plot is very dramatic...it is set in Imperial China and centers around the Princess Turandot, who has sworn that if a man of royal birth can answer her three riddles, she will marry him - but if he tries and gets them wrong, he gets his head cut off! The story begins with the people of Peking (of which I am one :D ) screaming for the executioners to come behead the 27th failed prince...

It's fun. We get to sing about "spurting flame and blood" and severed heads. And that's only the first act...

Anyways, come see it if you can. Support your local arts scene!!!
