So, this upcoming weekend, the UT Opera Theatre (of which I am a part) will be presenting
SUSANNAH
a two-act opera by Carlisle Floyd
in English
set in East Tennessee
The story revolves around Susannah, a teenage girl who lives in a cabin in the mountains with her brother. One day the elders of the nearby church see her bathing in a creek and proceed to tell the whole town that she's a heathen slut. Will Susannah confess to things she didn't do so that the townspeople will accept her again? Will she be run out of the valley? Will she get it on with the travelling preacher? Come find out!
I am singing the role of Mrs. McLean, the evil bitch
who has it in for Susannah from the start because my sort-of-mentally-retarded son likes her. Come see me be evil!!!
We're at the Bijou Theater downtown, and my nights to sing are Saturday the 15th at 7:30 and Monday the 17th at 7:30. The ticket office number is 522-0832.
