My Cat Loves Me Way Too Much

Oh, yeah.
The current "alpha male" competition that our cat Tallulad is having with TheSym, fighting over bed space and such, has escalated.
(Tallulad had found a way inside that we can't find a month or so ago.)
Now, in a brilliant 'great provider' move, he's laid a huge blackbird right in front of the refridgerator - you know, where the food goes?
Silly humans.

How is Cam going to top that?

What's the actual scientific explanation for why cats kill birds and leave them for you? Did people actually used to use housecats as poultry providers in addition to their duties as mouse killers? What evolutionary basis is there for it? Is it like, only the cats that brought people dead birds were encouraged to survive?

And people say cats don't care. I've never had a dog bring me food.

That's right.
Dogs are co-dependant buggers, so I really prefer cats. This cat is really showing some initiative, and he knows where all the groceries go...

obviously, the cat is trying to take over the world. eat the feline, before it eats you.

Reminds me of one of my favs growing up who alas, the mighty warrior died of heart failure in his sleep instead of in glorious combat.

I still remember the stares of fellow school students as this huge orange tabby came trotting up with a dying dachsund (sp?) clutched in his jaws. Then dropped it at my feet. Tuna was one big bitter alley cat who left the dogs of the neighborhood wimpering in terror.

*sighs* I miss a cat who considered yip-yap dogs a form of rodent and larger ones as a challenging prey.

Dogs know that if you show the Alpha food, he will take all of it and leave you nothing. I can alway tell when the dogs have killed another rat in the yard because when the see me coming the suddenly are looking everywhere but where the dead rat is.

"No! You don't want to go over there! I wouldn't be caught dead over there....er....um....I mean....Wouldn't it be much more fun to be over here! The sun is over here, and look! There is all this grass over HERE!"

Either that, or I catch them with it...

Then they try to hide it by covering it up with their paws and head.

"Ok, what have you got there?"

"Nuthin'! "

" You wouldn't be sitting perfectly still like that if you weren't hiding SOMETHING!"

"This happens to be a very comfortable spot." *wagging the tail*
