What is the true meaning behind the Smurf’s. Is it an innocent cartoon? Or is there more to the cartoon? And, why is there just one female?

Everything that I was able to find on the smurfs pertained to communism, except for the last site. This pertained to the French Revolution.
Couldn't find much of anything on Smurfette. All of it was a bunch of cutesy shit.

Smurfette was a ho.

Poor Smurfette. Even she is caught in the whole Madonna/Whore dichotomy.
She is always perceived either as an evil harlot sent by Gargemel to destroy the lives of the other smurfs by her sexual powers, or the sweet innocent cute care-taker maternal type to all the male smurfs. When will others learn to see past the roles cast onto her by society and see her for the smurf she trully is and all the many aspects of her personality?
This has been a meaninglless piece of propaganda from the people for the equal treatment of female smurfs.

that's "female smurf". there is only one female smurf.

Ahh...but later on in the series, a young overalls wearing redheaded female smurf appeared...one of the smurflings, when the male smurflings stole Gargamel's spell to make female smurfs, and made a little one, since they used Smurf size tools instead of human. I can't remember the little one's name though.
But there are two female smurfs.

Oh yeah! Thank you. I should have realized since she was a "sassy" little irritant. Normally leading the innocent smurflings into danger. Bitchy would have worked too I think...

SASSETTE
Sassette was created by the Smurflings to keep Smurfette company. She has red pigtails and pink overalls. She is a rough and tumble tomboy who is always asking “Why?” and “How?”. Sassette and Smurfette are like chalk and cheese
BABY SMURF
On a blue, moonlit night, Baby Smurf was brought to the village by a stork. But where did he come from? No-one knows, but everyone immediately adopted him - even though he breaks the routine of their lives.
VANITY SMURF
Mirror in hand, and with a flower in his bonnet, Vanity simply adores himself. He thinks he is the smurfiest Smurf in the village and loves talking fashion with Smurfette.
